A Trillion Dollars For Nothing

Several car bombers wearing military uniforms launched an attack against the American embassy in Yemen today, and initial emergency responders were cut down by sniper fire from across the street by shooters also wearing uniforms. The Bush Administration immediately said the attacks appeared to be the work of Al Qaeda.

You remember Al Qaeda, don’t you? They’re the group Bush left behind at Tora Bora in 2001 to pursue his war of choice in Iraq with John McCain’s full support. They’re the group Bush allowed to reestablish a foothold in the Waziristan tribal areas in 2006 when he encouraged Pervez Musharraf to enter into truces with local leaders aligned with the Taliban. They’re the group David Petraeus says comprise the core of terrorism – but inside Iraq, not Afghanistan/Pakistan, or even Yemen.

You’ll recall all the chest thumping by the GOP red-meaters against Clinton when the USS Cole was attacked. I can’t wait to see the chest-thumping by the same GOP flame-throwers against their own president nearly a decade later, now that we have spent a trillion dollars to fight an irrelevant war that did nothing to stop Al Qaeda from attacking us again - in the same f*cking country. But you can rest assured that John McCain fully supports the wasted decade and trillions of dollars misspent fighting the enemy in the wrong place.
