Please Go There John

by Steve Soto

McCain says today that he’ll bring up Ayers tomorrow night because Obama challenged his guts on the matter. Go ahead John, fall for that trap.

Obama is now running radio ads throwing it back in McCain’s face in advance of the debate.

"Bill Ayers is a professor of education who once served with Obama on a school reform board, a board funded by conservative Republicans tied to McCain," says the ad's narrator. "When Ayers committed crimes in the '60s, Obama was 8 years old. Obama condemned those despicable acts. Ayers has had no role in Obama's campaign, and will have no role in his administration."
"And John McCain? With no plan to fix our economy, smears are all he has left," says the narrator.
The ad is airing in Wisconsin, Colorado, and likely other states.

Palin is allowed to run her own negative messaging, dragging McCain into a situation where he’ll use valuable time tomorrow night on a topic that only matters to the Kool-Aid drinkers in the far right base. He tried to roll out his own proposals today, naturally built around cutting capital gains taxes.

Senator, who in the middle class has capital gains to tax this year? Folks are worried about what is left of their 401(k)s and 457's, and yet the best you can do for the middle class is a capital gains tax cut?

His party is split between those who want to run on the issues, and those who want to ignore them and focus on tearing down Obama’s character. The problems at the top of the ticket are causing down-ballot headaches for the Republican National Committee, which feels the need to borrow money to save incumbent GOP senators previously thought to be safe.

But by all means Senator McCain, please bring up Ayers tomorrow night. It will give Obama a great opportunity to pound you silly on something that matters, like health care.
