From the Atlantic to the Pacific: Agreement
Having the venerable New York Times endorse Obama for the 2008 election is not surprising. However, having the most widely read paper in Alaska do the same is. And why did the Anchorage Daily News do that?
Yet despite her formidable gifts, few who have worked closely with the governor would argue she is truly ready to assume command of the most important, powerful nation on earth. To step in and juggle the demands of an economic meltdown, two deadly wars and a deteriorating climate crisis would stretch the governor beyond her range. Like picking Sen. McCain for president, putting her one 72-year-old heartbeat from the leadership of the free world is just too risky at this time.
And both the New York Times and the Anchorage Daily News comment on the African evangelical preacher who blessed Sarah Palin foreseeing her political rise as God's plan and what it says about Sara Palin's beliefs. It's those damn youtubes that are causing the trouble according to the NYTimes. And it doesn't help to have Sarah discussing the prayer warriors with Dobson last week.
The piece in the Anchorage Daily Times exposes how Sarah Palin's discussions on American exceptionalism harkens back to those dark old days when the early settlers on the American shores hunted witches to keep social control. Finally, Sarah's connections with right-wing Christian extremists is a story that has broken into the Mainstream media. The Christian right must be furious that their carefully groomed candidate is on the verge of losing the election. What does it say about God's plan? I think for Sarah, it means that lots of the "real Americans" will be flooding to Alaska for their rendezvous with destiny.
