Wednesday Blogaround

by paradox

/* This has been covered at Incertus, Balloon Juice and Pandagon but it can’t be repeated often enough: an organization called KopBusters in Texas rented a house and began using grow lights in two small Christmas trees. Sure enough Odessa cops showed up and illegally searched the house, ready to lie on an affidavit.

When will the stupid insanity of prosecuting marijuana stop? The war on drugs is an utter failure, a sick waste of resources that accomplishes nothing and invites terrible abuse on our people.

/* Every time I see the phrase “car czar” I want to puke. It’s bad enough “czar” denotes an abusive monarch and a people willing put up with generations of terrible abuse before they finally rebelled, but this oversight for Auto while the Treasury bailout skates with hardly a whisper is nauseating.

American International Group Inc., the insurer whose bonuses and perks are under fire from U.S. lawmakers, offered cash awards to another 38 executives in a retention program with payments of as much as $4 million. Will this Congressional term ever end? At this point I don’t trust a rep to tie their shoes correctly. [h/t Calculated Risk]

/* Via Shakesville comes a post on the effect of the economic crisis on two families. This is precisely why I’m addicted to blogs, they bring stories and perspectives of little people so consistently, while it often seems corporate journalism is only willing to sell to them. Not always, but most of the time.

Please have a wonderful evening, everyone. I hope your Christmas season is going well.
