Evidently the NY Times got taken in by some people in the religious right saying that bad economic times were proving to be good for evangelical churches. Except, as Frank Newport, editor-in-chief for Gallop says, not according to the data he's seen. In fact, the extent of the religious right in this country has been oversold for a while according to Christine Wicker who wrote a book on this topic after doing some extensive study to see if she could back up the numbers the conservatives were reporting.
