It's still not clear why Judd Gregg was determined to be the best choice a Democratic president could make for Secretary of Commerce. And it was a given that semi-Dem New Hampshire Governor John Lynch would appoint a Republican to replace Gregg, in the Senate. There were at least a few possible caretaker choices that could have been almost palatable to Democrats, but Bonnie Newman doesn't seem to have been one of them. It's also not yet clear that she intends to be but a caretaker. And Lynch is not the only one to blame.
