A very interesting discussion on Making sense of the credit debacle. It seems that we have come back to a question about the what deters bad behavior. As with question of whether the Bushies should get their day in court (and face jail time) vs, the assertion that it would damage things more to be so punitive, the question is whether some of the top cats in the financial scam should go to jail. And of course, once again the concensus seems to be that only the little guy should pay (with utmost harsh sentences) because within our country the financial and political elite are way too important to hold accountable for their actions and destructive decisions. And then they have the gall to talk about the danger of moral hazard and blame the elderly widow for taking out a bad loan. She should have known better. Right?
