Naming Jeff Sessions to the Republican head of the Judiciary Committee was like naming Jesse Helms to the Foreign Relations Committee rather than Dick Lugar. As Steve Benen discussed with Rachel, it makes the Republican brand rather uninviting for a significant percentage of the American public.
