Teabaggers: It's Not About The Numbers, It's About The Insanity
The corporate media want to focus on the numbers and the mere fact that people are protesting against a president. Of course, they all but ignored the much larger protests against Bush's Iraq invasion. But while even the New York Times has this, as lede:
A sea of protesters filled the west lawn of the Capitol and spilled onto the National Mall on Saturday in the largest rally against President Obama since he took office, a culmination of a summer-long season of protests that began with opposition to a health care overhaul and grew into a broader dissatisfaction with government.
“Liar! Liar! Liar! Liar!” the crowd shouted back, echoing the accusation that Representative Joe Wilson, Republican of South Carolina, hurled at the president three days earlier during his address to Congress.
Of course, we all know that the president wasn't lying, but the protesters are not about truth. They're not about dignity. They're not making valid points about valid issues. They're insane, and they're about insanity.
One sign called him the “parasite in chief.” Others likened him to Hitler. Several people held up preprinted signs saying, “Bury Obama Care with Kennedy,” a reference to the Massachusetts senator whose body passed by the Capitol two weeks earlier to be memorialized.
Yes. A man Hitler would have despised for exactly the same reason so many of these frothing lunatics despise him is like Hitler. Primarily because he wants to impose the availability of medical care on those who don't have it. Makes perfect sense. If you're insane.
The Associated Press had this:
Throngs of people waved U.S. flags and held signs reading "Go Green Recycle Congress" and "Obama Bin Lyin.'" Men wore colonial costumes as they listened to speakers who warned of "judgment day" -- Election Day 2010.
Other signs -- reflecting the growing intensity of the health care debate -- depicted President Barack Obama with the signature mustache of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler. Many referred to Obama as a socialist or communist, and another imposed his face on that of the villainous Joker from "Batman."
Yes. Recycling Congress for Republicans who hate all things environmentally responsible is going green. The president is likened to Osama bin Laden by people whose extreme repressive social values bin Laden actually would respect. He's a Nazi and a socialist and a communist, despite the fact that, um, you know, the Nazis hated the socialists and communists. Which once again puts the wingnuts in moral and intellectual alliance with the same people they so ignorantly cite in their deranged attempts to demonize the president. For the horror of trying to expand access to medical care!
Richard Brigle, 57, a Vietnam War veteran and former Teamster, came from Paw Paw, Mich. He said health care needs to be reformed -- but not according to Obama's plan.
"My grandkids are going to be paying for this. It's going to cost too much money that we don't have," he said while marching, bracing himself with a wooden cane as he walked.
I love people like that. Because the poor sap apparently hasn't rubbed two synapses together long enough to figure out that with exploding insurance costs, his grandkids will be paying much more without a national health plan than with one. That is, if they're even able to afford health insurance. But then, being a good grandparent, he probably wouldn't want his grandkids to have health care. Because that's what the president and the Democrats are trying to help provide for them. Which makes them Nazis. And communists.
It's not about the numbers, it's about the insanity. And the more we see of these people, the more obvious they are.
