Tonight NPR had a story about the companies quitting the Chamber of Commerce and they had several theories about why these companies were doing that: mainly that they could only be doing it because they wanted to look good for their customers and thus it was only because it helped their bottom line. Not one of those reasons was because the companies in question believe that global climate change is a clear and present danger and to ignore it was to betray humanity. Funny, how when Peter Darbee (CEO for PG&E) spoke at the RMI Conference this weekend, he was quite clear that he believed global climate change was a real threat and PG&E had an obligation to do something about it. The news media is doing a true disservice to their public when they report that people (and companies) can only be doing something because they are cynically out for themselves.
