Scott Brown: Golf Is More Important Than 9/11 Rescue Workers

by Turkana

As Greg Sargent previously reported, Scott Brown voted against a bill to provide financial assistance to Red Cross volunteers who helped with 9/11 recovery efforts. Think Progress got a quick interview with Brown, and his explanation only makes things worse:

Yes, it was a time when our budget was down. We had a lot of cuts unfortunately, and we had to take care of our own priorities first.

In case you were wondering what priorities those might be, Think Progress fills in some details:

During the same month Brown was voting down efforts to support 9/11 rescue workers, he was pushing a bill to appropriate a tax-subsidized bond to build a golf course in Norfolk, a city in his district. “Priorities,” indeed.

At the same time, Brown was valiantly pursuing tax subsidies for corporate interests.

If Massachusetts wants to know what kind of senator Brown would make, now you know. Heroes in need need not look to him for help. He'll be too busy golfing with corporate plutocrats.
