A Pathetic DINO

by Steve

Democratic senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska, who isn’t even on the ballot this fall, has now voted with the GOP to filibuster an extension of unemployment benefits numerous times. He does this even as thousands of his own constituents will be harmed by his actions as they lose their benefits, and face financial ruin, while Senator Nelson goes home to enjoy the July Fourth holiday.

Ostensibly, Nelson votes with the GOP over a concern about deficit spending. So let’s take a look at Senator Nelson’s voting record on past deficit spending to see how consistent he has been on this issue.

He voted in favor of the 2001 and 2003 Bush tax cuts.

He voted for the Medicare Part D drug bill.

He voted in favor of the off-budget and deficit-financed 2003, 2006, and 2008 Iraq/Afghanistan supplemental war funding bills.

So why does Senator Nelson fully support deficits when they finance HMOs, drug companies, and the military industrial complex, yet oppose them when they help his constituents? You can tell him what you think here.
