What is with Arizona?

Gabrielle Giffords of the Arizona 8th Congresstional District was shot in the head today as she met with constituents in Tucson. Six people are dead including a federal judge and a nine year old child.

Sarah Palin "targeted" Giffords and others for defeat in the 2010 election, but Giffords won a close race.

The WAPO is reporting that Giffords' opponent "held campaign events under the slogan "Help remove Gabrielle Giffords from office" and invited his supporters to "shoot a fully automatic M16 with Jesse Kelly.""

The alleged shooter, Jared Loughner, was tackled and in custody according to CBS news.

There is a lot of speculation about Loughner's motivation, but I don't think this is hard to sort out. I suspect it will be easy to figure out that Loughner's politics are right of center, there are stories popping up about Loughner's youtube mind control videos. Now watch all the right wingers who have been spewing hate start talking about how they have no responsibility for this guy. He will probably turn out to be a complete nut, but that did not keep him from acquiring a glock with a monster clip.
