How about this film, "Mein Kampf", a nice black and white documentary first released in the sixties. A history of Hitler's rise in Germany, the citizens who let it happen and the victims it took; the scorched earth policy of the leader, his loyal minions who enabled his reach into the depths of hell and the ramifications of all of the above that we still feel today...

But today, it's like, whatever. It'll be over with after the next commercial.

American Nazism -the neo-cons and the new brownshirts, republi-cons- takes offense that their special brand of imperialistic totalitarianism is labeled anything but the truth and the one way. A special path of enlightenment. A very narrow path.

1934's Triumph of the Will by German filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl is considered by many to be the finest propaganda film ever made.

It surfaces from time to time at film festivals and in art houses. The similarities between the Nazi regime and the Bush administration are stunning.

I'm not a Joe Biden fan-too many twists and turns over the years. But his speech yesteday at the Senate was superb. Kos has it up on a Comment You Tube, its probably available elsewhere also. Except, of course, on Broadcast Media or the Press. Something else absent from the Media...mention of the 3200th dead GI in Bush's Iraq War. shame.

So -

Did anyone note the coincidental release of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed's confession?

Does anything smell funny? Could the Administration be trying to knock the Abu Gonzales story of the headlines? And the confession sounds like it has KSM taking the rap for every Al Queda attack between Sept 2001 and his capture in Mar 2003.

Does anything smell funny?

Well, when you hold someone prisoner and beat them for months and months, you can bet they will admit to anything.

This is George W. Bush's Murika.

Good thing the Dems are in control. They just passed the emergency war funding bill! Oh, and there was over $20 billion worth of pork included. At least the penuts in Georgia will be dry.

I'm loving the "Mistakes were made" excuses Bush and Gonzo are throwing out for the public and Media consumption. The "Mistake" in Bush's mind is simply that this whole US Attorney thing was revealed. Not the cold political nature of the firings, not the lying before Congress of the Atty.General, no, the mistake in Bush World is that the cat escaped the bag. When he says they'll take steps to see this doesn't happen again, that just means they now realize that the GOP isn't in control of Congress anymore and they'll have to be even more clandestine in their illegal operations. Crooks and Liars. Bush says he is "troubled" over this scandal...oh, I bet he is. Big Time. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when he gets back to D.C. and gets Karl and Gonzo in a room alone.

loyalty to the party over competence

I'm not watching DailyKos much any more but on a recent visit it seemed like there was some discontent on Kos (the big dog of the lefty netroots) with their knee-jerk support of all Dems no matter what their stance on issues. It'll be interesting to watch how this develops.

If we don't stand for something we'll fall for anything.

All the media flutter over the confessions of Sheik Mohammad is rather amusing. Does anyone think the guy thinks he has any chance of being set free? This guy is dedicated to his cause and understands that his life as he knew it is over. He has no reason not to take credit for anything he has supposedly taken credit for. He's been in custody for what, 4 years now? He has no operational knowledge of what his comrades are doing now. He is useless to the US and he knows he's gonna spend the rest of his life in a jail cell.

He is however getting press coverage because he 'confessed'.

Is it me or do these guys really know how to play our media?

Regarding "Justice" in the United States, their is precious little. What is happening on the grand scale to those US attorneys happens on a smaller scale to ordinary citizens every day. Ask any defense attorney, or almost any black person.

"We are told that our judges, charged with constitutional obligations, insure equal justice for all. That, too, is a myth. The function of the law is not to provide justice or to preserve freedom. The function of the law is to keep those who hold power, in power. --Gerry Spence, defense attorney, "From Freedom to Slavery", p. 109.

Ted Koppel . . . on NPR?

What a media whore.

I didn't realize "fossils" like him and David Broder were still shuffling around in their walkers.

It's one of those things when someone compliments you about doing a fine job on something and you take it seriously.

In Ted's case, someone said said he did a nice report. Ergo, he thought he'd be journalist.

Just shows that anyone can hang out their shingle and proclaim they're an "expert".

snark, I haven't read up on the newest KSM "confessions" but the Seattle Times has a funny headline "I'm responsible for 9-11 from A to Z" along with the hilarious picture that's been plastered again everywhere. Does this new story include how many times he's been tortured? Does it talk about how the US held his young children hostage and threatened to kill them if he didn't talk? I heard he also copped to causing the levees to break in NOLA and how he's the guy on the "grassy knoll." True?

Bush said "that it was not his job to "replace the verdict of a jury unless there are new facts or evidence of which a jury was unaware, or evidence that the trial was somehow unfair." Said while Governor.

"The Lives of Others," not to put too fine a point on it, ranks among the best movies I have ever seen, from nearly any aspect. On the political / ideological front, it conveys in the most resonant, emotional way, what you, individually and as a whole society, get with John Poindexter's "Total Infomation Awareness." The corrosive, twisted deformations of each person and the whole structure of society are wrenching.

Does anyone think the guy thinks he has any chance of being set free?

Is this guy even alive?
And why don't we give this fucker a trial and justice?
Give the repuli-cons what they want, outrage, death sentences and more TV coverage!

I'd expect tlc to mention our gov's "no california
network left behind act", so thought I'd bring it up.
By Jan '08, I think I'll be watching everything via tivo to avoid the deluge of political ads. Though it seems like California should have more of a say in who we choose, doesn't it actually LIMIT our choices to those that can afford our market?

Indeed, this is quite true. After waterboarding and chilling for several days while naked in a 48 degree cell, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed -or as he now prefers to be called, Peaches- confessed he is the killer of Bambi's mother. After a strenuous session while inserted upside-down in a mummy sleeping bag and being kicked in the groin repeatedly for a 45 minute period, Peaches also confessed to shooting one J.R Ewing of Dallas and claims responsibility for being the mastermind behind the sinking of the Titanic. From this information we believe the terrorists have developed the ability to time travel using two camels rubbed together at a high rate of speed, which we theorize causes a worm hole to the past to open up. We have attempted to replicate this phenomena with no success as the camels tend to emit a burnt hair smell before bursting into flames. Peaches is enjoying his new employment as an ashtray table for the camp commandant.
