Who is one to believe?
It is pretty obvious. Find any quote from a Republican and assume the opposite. Your odds of getting the facts right using this method are pretty high.

[Editor: ignore=off]Paradox,
You give the public tooooooo much credit.
Remember.
After Hoover ran the country in the ditch, the public(?) put FDR in charge in 1932. And then put Republicans in control of Congress later to counterbalance him, and they then enacted term limits after FDR won 4 straight.
This is the same public that after Nixon and Watergate in 1974, returned Republicans to power in 1980 and stuck with them until 1992 (12 years) even after scandals like Iran-Conra & the S&L & Star Wars & etc etc etc.
The same public that after (barely) electing Clinton (and a sane fiscal policy), then put Republicans in charge of the Congress in 1994 through 2006 (12 years).
The same public that disregarded Bush 43's disasterous time as governor where he funded public education with taxes on strip clubs among other assorted nuttery (this after having Ann Richards as a governor).
And gave him enough votes to make it a close race so that the Supremes could appoint him in 2000.
And gave him the majority of the popular vote in 2004.
Somewhere, someone has to come to the conclusion that people in this country are not qualified to vote because they're either stupid, ignorant, both, or that they may be committed to Republicans even if it's not in their best interest.
In other words, the public cannot be trusted with their votes.
Posted by Alex at March 16, 2007 04:48 PMWhy Alex, how undemocratic of you.
[smiles] It reminds me of 17th century quotes of horror about proposed democracy. Many thought it was extremely dangerous.
We shall see what happens.
Posted by paradox at March 16, 2007 07:36 PMRight on Alex, you got my vote! Dumbasses I know, but ignore socially unless they're buying drinks, favorite mantra to everything: if this country is so bad, why do so many foreigners want to come live here? And..military deaths in Iraq, it's the soldiers own fault, they volunteered, didn't they?
My favorite? Iraq isn't Bush's fault: he's surrounded by men who give him bad advice.
Another favorite: This is a cycle.
