Comments: Alberto Tanked Landmark Tobacco Case

The proverbial coffin is now sealed.

This was a giant boulder that landed on Gonzales's head. Not a drip.

Efforts to get White House testimony can only be helped by this new revelation.

Ive read somewhere that this has been a tactic of the Bush admin. When industry dont like a law or regulation, they sue the government. The government then lose the case or settle out of court. In effect new laws and regulations are passed outside congress.

Okay, show of hands, who did not know that the US attorneys threw that tobacco case?

And the main tactic of the Bush/Cheney Junta, like the Reagan and Bush administrations before them, is to file the action to enforce a law that they oppose (environmental, labor, public health, discrimination, etc.), then enter into a "settlement agreement" which is confidential.

The government then claims that it has "filed more enforcement cases" than any prior administration, while effectively refusing to enforce the statute.

Drip, drip, drip.

Gonzo, despite Bush's enthusiastic claims of support, is a dead man walking. He will be gone before Memorial Day, '07.

Just wondering and thinking about some other high profile cases over the past several years....Abramoff, NH phone jamming case, AIPAC-Franklin case (wasn't there a change in prosecutors midway), Tom Delay's Texas redistricting case, Halliburton's tax payer rip off deal for ....all now can be looked at in a new and Bush colored different light.

Drip ...drip....d..r..i..p. The DOJ just another of kkKarl's political playgrounds. And lest we forget, wasn't Rove appointed Katrina Reconstruction Czar during this time....any lawsuits other there involving Katrina.

emal - There is more than enough evidence to order the Articles of Impeachment:

1. lying the country into a war
2. domestic wiretaping
3. Katrina
4. the AG/DOJ scandal

All it takes to impeach Bush is leadership.

yes, Kerry pegged them correctly as Crooks and Liars. At this point, the War on Terror is starting to look like simply a diversion to take America's eyes off the level of criminality perpetrated from day one by the Bush Regime. Maybe it is. Take a good hard look at the War on Terror. It started with a one day attack, about which our leaders were forewarned repeatedly. And since then......we've had the Color Codes, the Homeland Security, the No Toothpaste on Airplanes and so forth. Not to mention constant shooting warfare in distant lands. All the while, the laws of the nation, and the Constitution itself, have been repeated twisted or broken by the Bush Regime, most using the WOT as a justification (when caught).

Everyone knows that the DOJ management has been throwing cases against Bushco campaign contributors for years. BushAmerica doesn't care.

The problem with Abu resigning is who the hell is corrupt and weak enough to be an adequate replacement? And how could Bushco get the senate to confirm someone as worthless as Abu again? He is worth his weight in gold.

The Cheney admin requires an attorney general that is utterly compliant to what the "unitary executive" wants to do, the "law" be damned--they can't have a "real" attorney general in office. Indeed, Abu is probaby spending time today on redecorating his office. His wife saw a new statue of Blind Justice she particularly liked!

So Abu's not resigning and Nero's not asking for his resignation, ever. I suppose Congress could impeach Abu, ha-ha.

With the tobacco case admission, if the trial attorneys are smart enough, they'll reopen the award part of the trial and ask for the full amount.

The DOJ had a conflict of interests that it didn't publicly disclose then.

Okay, show of hands, who did not know that the US attorneys threw that tobacco case?

Absolutely true. However when it hits the MSM, it is a significant development.

i posted this comment at "the carpetbagger report" today

under CB's article "gonzales is only thinking of our kids (march 22, 2007)":

(the comment is in brackets):

[ so alberto is going to go about the nation demonstrating his caring for our kids.

sweet.

well, turns out that’s an easy line of bullshit to dispose of.

and it links with other doj corruption to boot.

want the data?

- go to “the left coaster”

- look for steve soto’s article “alberto tanked government’s tobacco case” (march 21, 2007

- go to the last paragraph . click on the “we said” in the first line of that paragraph (”As we said here….”)

- this takes you to a steve soto article dated june 9, 2005 and titled “big tobacco’s man in alberto gonzales’ justice department”. it’s a post about robert mccallum.

- go the the last paragraph of this article.

- click on “children’s health advocates” in the first line of that last paragraph.

- this will take you to a statement (a press release) dated june 7, 2005.

the statement is by william v. corr, executive director of

CAMPAIGN FOR TOBACCO-FREE KIDS.
.

the strands of corruption and deceit in the bush white house and doj are beginning to be woven into whole cloth - a shroud in which to bury the reputation of the pres and his administration.

unless the white house can stall a congressional investigation, we should really see the rats start to leave this ship in a month or so.
