Yes, McCain was made a fool. But right now on MSNBC his story is repeated without any mention of the "eaten words" or discreditation suffered at the hand's of Ware. Only his "rah-rah" speech is put out for public consumption.

how about the "profile in courage" by Susan Collins of Maine? who said today that just because she voted against a timetable doesnt mean she agrees with an indefinite continuation of the current situation in Iraq... she suggested to give the "surge" another "Friedman" to see if it was working and then decide what to do...

So he feels like he has no choice but to become the candidate who's willing to say the absolute wingnuttiest things of the bunch. If another candidate says he supports the war, McCain feels he has no choice but to say the war is going great.
