Comments: Rudy's Kerik Problem

Sure, it's easy to forget that someone you promoted had connections to organized crime. Jeez Steve.

Also, seems Rudy's current wife forgot she had another husband also.

"Both value loyalty above integrity, competence and honesty". Exactly.

This is just part and parcel of the conservative "movement", and exactly the kind of "public servants" that EVERY conservative Repub president will rely on and appoint, without exception.

You build an adminastration with the "conservatives" you have.....not the ones the country wishes you had.

If "conservatism" is not utterly smashed into marginalia as a political movement, the country is doomed.

we might guess that both are organized crime figures and surround themselves with others like them.
if our politico's have such bad memories, they are clearly unworthy to represent any of us. they claim to be low grade morons when expedient. more often than not

Giuliani/Kerik, a fascinating story.

"Bernie Kerik is one of the most accomplished and effective leaders of law enforcement in America," Bush said in announcing his decision [to appoint Kerik to head Homeland Security] at the White House. "In every position, he has demonstrated a deep commitment to justice, a heart for the innocent and a record of great success. I'm grateful he's agreed to bring his lifetime of security experience and skill to one of the most important positions in the American government."

The real reasons Giuliani's prison warden/chaffuer Kerik had to step down were not about "nannies." The investigations would have led to Giuliani being in hot water. Somehow Giuliani and Bush miscalculated just how cowed the media is. They didn't expect the media would do any less than unanimously coronate "hero" Kerik. Fortunately, Dan Janison, Len Levitt and a few other Newsday reporters dared to write articles exposing Kerik. If Kerik is qualified to run the nation's security Ken Lay ought to be appointed to head the Treasury Dept. His expertise in using stun guns, however, is likely to be extensive.

Hillary Rodham Clinton and Charles Schumer had endorsed Kerik's nomination saying it could yield more Homeland Security funding for the state.

President Bush: First, I want to welcome Bernie Kerik to the South Lawn, and to the Oval Office. We just had a fascinating discussion about what he did in Iraq, what he saw in Iraq. He can speak for himself. But let me characterize it this way, that he went to help the Iraqis organize a police force. He showed up at times of chaos and confusion. Because of his leadership, his knowledge and his experience, he was able to stand up a police force in Baghdad in a very quick period of time. I think he told me opened up 37 different precinct stations -- 35 different precinct stations. They activated and trained 35,000 Iraqi police force. And that's important because the ultimate solution to the security issues in Iraq is for the Iraqi citizens to manage their own affairs.

Giuliani on Kerik:
"He was the brother I never had."

Judith,
Rudy's wife Judith has two former husbands, which I think evens her with Rudy in the former spouse department, and should interest the fundies.

Oldtree, you are closer to the truth than you may think...not just those two, but the whole bunch. What about this current GOP doesn't operate like a giant crime family? The oath of Loyalty, the "any means necessary", the ability to cut your best friend's throat when needed (Bush/Kenny Boy Lay), the constant graft, lying as a business practice, "laws are made to be broken" mentality. This country exists as a giant shakedown racket for the GOP.

Giuliani is a big city boss. He ran NYC like a machine, same as Chicago is run by Daley. Loyalty, patronage and the good 'ol boy network are par for the course in big cities.

Giuliani is neck deep in the obfuscation of evidence discovery in connection with the 911 atrocity.

Exactly who told you that WTC 7 was going to collapse, Rudy? Probably the same person who sent out the press release describing this unprecedented event and why to the BBC twenty-five minutes before it occurred.

I'm sure his townhall meetings will be monitored by security thugs ready to throw out anyone bold enough to ask tough questions. You know, just like Bush.

Let's see if I have this right: Rudy, had he known something we now know he did know, would never have done the thing he did, in fact, do?

Knowing that Kerik was mobbed-up, he made him police commissoner, and then later suggested him for the head of Homeland Security?

Well, you can see why he would lie about that, I guess. What a crook.

Ohhh. So the NYC Mayor's office was in on the setup too?

Amazing.

The number of people in on the job just keeps growing and growing.

snark:

Check out this link, hyperlinked to sources, and tell me there is no reason to question the media spun tale of the 911 horror show.

Brisa, we are where we are because of 911. Everything that has happened these past six years is because of that one event. How convenient for Bush.
