Another case of where small liberal blogs discovered the problems first, and it finally worked its way into MSM.
The FDA should make "food grade" and "feed grade" easily discernable. And a separate category for pet food altogether.
Posted by Seven of Six at April 16, 2007 10:32 AMThis is the reason I've always thought the excuse to not let consumers decide to buy pharmaceuticals from Canada "because we can't vouch for the safety" is such a crock o' shit. More people eat food than use drugs yet it's ok to import all and sundry.
Posted by Sharon at April 16, 2007 10:33 AMI haven't felt safe since these guys got into power, Steve. Having watched every regulatory post be filled with industry hacks (like the new recess appointment of Dudley, is it?) whose purpose is to dismantle oversight, I'm going to start learning how to grow and can my own food. We'll have to go thru yet another decade of people and pets dying, and political infighting before we can fix what these criminals have broken.
Posted by iamcoyote at April 16, 2007 11:18 AMFood safety was one of my biggest reasons for opposing NAFTA. DDT use in the U.S. has been banned for a very long time, but we still manufacture DDT and sell it to Mexico. Still buying those strawberries in October? Think again.
Posted by ann at April 16, 2007 04:57 PMWhat I want to know is why are we buying oranges or apples or strawberries outside the US, PERIOD?
