Gore Campaign Team Assembles in Secret
Friends of Al Gore have secretly started assembling a campaign team in preparation for the former American vice-president to make a fresh bid for the White House.
One of his former campaign team said: "I was asked whether I would be available towards the end of the year if I am needed. They know he has not ruled out running and if he decides to jump in, he will have to move very fast.
"He hasn't asked them to do this, but nor has he told them not to."
In an interview on Thursday, which touched on the prospects for next year's presidential election, Mr Clinton commented: "You've got the prospect that Vice-President Gore might run."

[Editor: ignore=off]I've got bunches of flower starts ready to plant and will be delivering some this morning, and putting the rest in pots and in the ground at home later on. It's not much, but it's better than using some fairy sky being to excuse trashing the planet. (sorry, Judith).
Posted by iamcoyote at April 22, 2007 06:41 AMAfter a miserable cold and rainy week here, the sun is shining beautifully, the crocuses and daffodils are blooming brilliantly, and I'm off to a ballfield...raking and composting to be done later in the day.
On another note, over at the msnbc site this AM... headline reads "Modest gains with surge results, mixed results. Bombs kill 13." Love them mixed results... guess the gains are that huge wall they're building to partition off a Sunni neighborhood in the name of ahem "safety". Does that mean the party of St Ronnie and Tear down that Wall has flip flopped and is now pro Wall building?
Well happy Earth Day everyone!
Posted by emal at April 22, 2007 06:56 AMFrom Lee Iacocca's new book: "The President of the United States is given a free pass to ignore the Constitution, tap our phones, and lead us to war on a pack of lies. Congress responds to record deficits by passing a huge tax cut for the wealthy (thanks, but I don't need it). The most famous business leaders are not the innovators but the guys in handcuffs. While we're fiddling in Iraq, the Middle East is burning and nobody seems to know what to do. And the press is waving pom-poms instead of asking hard questions. That's not the promise of America my parents and yours traveled across the ocean for. I've had enough. How about you?"
Other gems in "Where Have All the Leaders Gone," he attacked this WH and minces few words. In reference to Bush's favorite phase "stay the course", Iacocca says, "this is America, not the damn Titanic." Another gem, "This is a bunch of bozos taking us over a cliff." Where have I heard that before?
Iamcoyote, no offense taken. My view is that we were given this beautiful planet and it is our responsibility to take care of it. Benito believes in slash and burn.
Mulched everything yesterday and dug up about seven feet of Ivy. DON'T PLANT IVY, EVER. Planting calla lilies and peruvian daffodils today. My contribution to Earth Day.
Posted by Judith at April 22, 2007 07:08 AMI am honestly asking this question, because I really don't know the answer. Can Gore win the WH? I realize that many here want him to run, and although he did win the election in 2000, can he once again bring out the votes, especially the Independent vote? Reruns are usually unsuccessful.
Posted by Judith at April 22, 2007 07:13 AMI love calla lilies! I heard they were hard to keep alive. And thanks, every time I see the JC is risen stuff, I think of a loaf of bread ready for baking. Benditto illustrates the difference between true Christians and those who will use the bible to excuse bad behaviour.
Posted by iamcoyote at April 22, 2007 07:16 AMNot enough, but I gave up owning a car 15 years ago when I moved to Japan. I walk about thirty minutes each way. I also walk to the supermarket (one 15 minutes away, the other twenty) and generally return either on foot or by bus. When I go downtown, I usually walk, or I walk fifteen minutes to the streetcar.
Most of our lighting is fluorescent. I recently saw some optical fiber-fluorescent hybrid lamps that claim to be twice as efficient, and I plan to buy a couple tomorrow (they need special fixtures) to see how they work.
Like most Japanese homes, we have separate air conditioners in each room, so that we don't have to heat or cool the entire house at one time. Unlike most Japanese homes, we have double glazing, R-19 in the walls and R-30 in the ceiling.
I am also trying to teach about global warming in the classroom and am trying to get our college to include more environmental awareness in the curriculum.
Posted by notjonathon at April 22, 2007 07:32 AMI've been busy replacing old lightbulbs for the new energy-efficient ones for the last few weeks. Not done yet, though. Also have been planting tree seeds to replace the red oaks that I allowed to be logged due to red oak wilt infecting my trees. Fortunately, this 30 acres is well-endowed with other species of trees. While I'm at it, I'n going to be adding some fruit trees, raspberries, grapevines, as I don't trust the weather patterns to keep California and Florida as our major fruit-producers.

Iamcoyote, they are not difficult at all, and I am in Zone 5, which means that I have to dig up the blubs at the end of the season. However, they are worth it.
Christians using the Bible as an excuse for bad behavior. You got that one right.
Posted by Judith at April 22, 2007 09:32 AMMy wife and I are looking forward to the tenth annual Earth Day Fest in our small town in NW Illinois. Earth Day Fest, an event we started in 1997 is a free exhibition featuring environmental and conservation organizations that takes place at the local community hall.
It is supported by local businesses, community organizations and individuals. The goal is to raise environmental awareness among the local population, especially school children. The local schools bring their classes over for a walk through. Free canvass tote bags and small trees for planting are given away.
Participants this year include the NW IL Audubon Society, Eagle Nature Foundation, Jo Daviess County Soil and Water Conservation District, Shaklee Products, IL Renewable Energy Association, Natural Area Guardians, Arbonne International and many other organizations.
I'm happy to report that over the past ten years, support, participation and attendance has steadily risen. The main focus is on the school children, as the future depends upon them. Old attitudes of over-consumption and environmental degradation are gradually giving way to conservation, preservation and sustainablity. It is a slow and gradual transformation, but it is one that is definitely occurring.
Posted by brisa at April 22, 2007 09:35 AMI am going to find an unsuspecting GOP Benz driver at a stop light who thinks my modified supercharged F-150 Lightning is nothing more than a fancy farm implement, and drag race the yuppie leaving his\her ego in the intersection behind me.
As I watch the boost gauge go up to 14 pounds and the gas gauge go down to metaphoric warning level, I will reflect upon my correct decision of not bringing any rugrats into this horrible godbot driven world.
To offset this selfish act, I will trim my palm trees by hand today instead of calling the undocumented workers with their loud and polluting chain saws.
Posted by TIKI AL at April 22, 2007 10:37 AMI'm going to help Save The Planet today buy buying some carbon offset credits. If I've learned anything from Al Gore, it's that "conservation is for pussies" and that we are free to use as much energy as we want as long as we offset that use somewhere else via carbon offset credits.
In that spirit, I'm driving my fuel inefficient sports car to the Home Depot, where HD will no doubt be crowded with long lines of shoppers due to this roaring economy, and I am going to purchase a few plants. I will also be purchasing some compact fluorescent lights to replace the incandescent bulbs that have recently burned out. This will leave me with zero incandescent lights here at my doghouse.
Posted by muckdog at April 22, 2007 11:59 AMThanks for the article. I have a yahoo group, earthlings_anonymous and this was EXACTLY the question I have put to the group. What should we be DOING.
I think this was the most exciting Earth Day EVER. The ONE planet awareness was much more evident. More people were involved. Loved Aveda's Clean Water is a Right campaign!!
About a decade ago (or more) I was distressed so many people forgot that there are FOUR r's, not three. All focus went into reduce, recycle, reuse, but RETHINK was left out. This year, I see EVIDENCE of rethinking!! This is ONE planet, with finite resource, but infinite creativity. I think we are seein the shift . finally.
Thanks again.

Why? If conservation is for pussies? By-the-way, carbon offset credits does nothing to promote or help conservation.

Huh? I'm confused, that's not what Saint Gore says.

Posted by Don Guizzetti at April 22, 2007 07:09 PMYou cannot save the planet, nor does it need saving, but Jesus Christ the risen Lord saves sinners.
Yet, he has already said he won't save you Bendito. You damned yourself and you're so stupid you don't even know it. You gonna do it like finals? Cram at the end by being good to your fellow man?:
Matthew 25
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee ahungered, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42 for I was ahungered, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee ahungered, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal
and that we are free to use as much energy as we want as long as we offset that use somewhere else via carbon offset credits.
If you thought about it, you are correct. But I won't point that out.
I'm driving my fuel inefficient sports car
Do you put the lumber in your ski rack? I bet you are trying to get laid. And I bet it always fails as soon as you open your mouth. Or you have some bimbo impressed by the car who has straw for hair, implants over her picket fence ribs, and is about as interesting as unbuttered toast.
The wealthiest person I ever met gave me some sage advice about cars. He lived in Scottsdale in the old Wrigley mansion close to the Biltmore at the time. We were talking, and he claimed true wealth isn't concerned with cars. He bought them "by the pound and for value". Of course, he was wealthy and those things didn't matter to him. Since that time cars don't impress me. I see exotic I see a fool.
I am going to find an unsuspecting GOP Benz driver at a stop light
Find a golfcourse where the driving range is next to the parking lot. Then slice the hell out of em.
Well pdip the tale of the "millionaire next door" is your average Joe who saves 10-15% of his income over his lifetime, drives used cars, and avoids debt (credit cards). Pretty easy to do in this country if one wants to.
Amazingly, you make a good point about wealth.
And for the record, I did my part for Earth Day as I replaced all my remaining incandescents with compact fluorescents. Mission accomplished. The planet was saved.

This was real money, not a poser. Of course, he did get an erection over his Citation.

Coal, Tiki. Coal. I've got a guy who can put a boiler on that thing in a heartbeat. You can't tell the coal tender from a large car transport, and it only takes two...international...guys to keep the firebox stoked. The plume of crud I send-up kills every birds within a two-mile radius.
Sometime I'll tell you about my motorhome, the Phutney-Cretch Motoryacht. Has the turning radius of the Queen Mary with all the comforts of a Thai whorehouse.
Posted by phidipides at April 22, 2007 10:54 PMFor my role on Earth Day, I tried to top Gore's energy bill.
