Comments: Open Thread - Damaging the Justice Department Edition

Thank you for posting this, I had totally missed this part of the testimony and hadn't seen anything about it.

With the typical gender gap in the Great USofA, we could save some $$$ by electing Hillary!

Rumor has it Republicans are seriously considering a fresh face to replace Alberto Gonzales as AG.

His name is Ted Olson. Yep, that Ted Olson.

Posted by Christopher at April 23, 2007 03:30 AM

Ted Olson would be dangerous as AG. He's all Bushie like lil' Abu, but he's also competent.
Realisticaly the best we can hope for is a non-Bushite senior DOJ carrerist to be a caretake AG until 2009.

Posted by herbal tee at April 23, 2007 04:03 AM

Bush will not ask Abu to step down. Without reporters and real journalists in the media, my fear is this will fade with all the other scandals. I hope this isn't just another exercise in futility.

Ted Olson would never get pass Congress. Do I think Bush would suggest him, you betcha.

Posted by Judith at April 23, 2007 04:53 AM

The radical rightwingers who have a pathological hatred of former President Bill Clinton, love and respect Ted Olson.

Let's not forget the Ted Olson was the head of the now infamous Arkansas Project. Funded by billionaire Richard Mellon Scaife and its CEO was Ted Olson.

Olson enjoys almost saint-like status amongst these wingers, including Cheney.

Posted by Christopher at April 23, 2007 05:00 AM

Christopher, well of course they respect him. He helped put Little Boots in the WH.

Judith,

It's amazing to me how evil men like Kissinger, Wolfowitz, Perle and Olson never, ever go away.

They're always lurking, ready to make a reappearance.

Posted by Christopher at April 23, 2007 05:23 AM

If you are talking about evil men who never go away, don't forget about Elliot Abrams and John Poindexter. If I call remember correctly, these guys were convicted of felonies related to Iran-Contra and they both made a comeback in this administration. Abrams is still there I believe.

Now, tell me, are there so few qualified candidates for important policy roles that we need to keep hiring persons with convictions for official misconduct?

Good post. I don't see Bush appointing a career type to run Justice. An independent Justice might be tough to control. Lam was about to follow her Cunningham conviction investigation into the heart of the military industrial complex through Dusty Foggo and Brent Wilkes. I believe that was the real reason why the AGs were dumped. The other six or seven depending on how you count them, were cover to stop that investigation.

Hatch is a toadie.

Posted by angel at April 23, 2007 06:45 AM

John Poindexter is a bloody ghoul. Literally.

Posted by Christopher at April 23, 2007 06:50 AM

Olson's nomination would serve to open a line of questions about how the young woman USA came to join his firm last Fall. Sorry can't remember her name. But her departure from her position, the amt of $ she was offered would only fuel the USA debate certainly not help quelch it.

I suspect that listening to Orrin H. causes feelings of nausea and revulsion in most psychologically healthy people.

I'm sure Orrin didn't bat an eye at Whitehouse's revelations. Sick.

Only in the republi-con party. Every republi-con I know of is largely amoral -yet willing to moralize at every turn- and tied to autoritarian rule. Not one has ever put to rational thought the tenets of "conservatism" which they spout.

Posted by phidipides at April 23, 2007 08:27 AM

Judith, I suspect you are right about Bush not asking Gonzales to step down.

If Bush doesn't that incident should be added to the list regarding possible impeachment proceedings....

RI voters rock. Not only did they reject the DLC approved anti-abortion DEM primary candidate in favor of Whitehouse, but chose Whitehouse over the very nice and well liked incumbent Chafee.

Whitehouse demonstrated on Thursday what it is that Senators are supposed to do.
