Comments: Enabling Failure

I spoke with a half-dozen prominent GOP operatives this past week, most of them high-level officials in the Reagan and Bush I and Bush II administrations, and I heard the same devastating critique: This White House is isolated and ineffective; the country has stopped listening to President Bush

But, why do 70% of republicans still support the imbecile?

If you talk to one of these Repugs you would get the answer. They are just plain dumb and stupid.

"Republicans voice the bitterness and frustration of people chained to the hull of a sinking ship."

My only hope is that it is sinking in the Mariannas Trench... Can we possibly enlarge the hole, or break a few more seams on this ship of state, The faster it goes down, the better we all are served...

Posted by Maheanuu at April 25, 2007 07:22 AM

Oh, boo hoo. Talk is cheap. If the Republicans really feel that way, then impeach the son-of-a-bitch!

Posted by Judith at April 25, 2007 07:25 AM

Repubs continue to support Dear Leader because, at bottom, they desire authoritarian rule, not democracy.

Politically, their craven obeisance is foolish--Congressional Repubs would gain a new lease on life by openly and vocally confronting Nero, simply ordering him what to do, who to fire, etc. and telling him that if he doesn't do it, they'll go along with impeaching him and his rat-boy Cheney.

Destroying and removing Nero would purify their multitudinous sins in the eyes of many, many people. But, Repubs just can't go against their daddy/leader-worshiping DNA, their inability to admit error, and their evangelical base would oppose the removal of their evangelical president. So the Repubs are stuck.

I think all the domestic spying has turned up the goods on each of the congressional pukes so they dare not go against daddyDeadEye Inc.

Posted by Sharon at April 25, 2007 07:36 AM

The more I think about the disingenuous stance of the GOP in Congress, the madder I get. What in the hell are they afraid of? I have never seen such a group of pussies who are afraid to walk up the hill and tell this pResident a thing or two. Does Rove have photos and tapes of each and everyone of them in compromising situations?

Judith, I have no doubt, Rove's got something on just about everyone in public life, and most in the private sector as well. That's the first thing they did when they grabbed power. Besides, the GOP enjoyed these last several years without accountability - why would they want to change?

Posted by iamcoyote at April 25, 2007 08:14 AM

we were told what was coming back in December of 02:
"John DiIulio, former Bush director of the White House Office Of Faith-based and Community Initiatives, says that politics, not policy run the Bush White House, that speeches come first and policy is hastily and sketchily constructed later, that Bush is kept on the short leash of far right preconceptions of the world that often don't jibe with reality, and that fear of Karl Rove prevents staffers from providing him with news from the real world that might contradict his extreme, conservative vision."
The Media, of course, hastily dismissed Dilulio as a discontented former employee. He will be remembered as the man who tried to tell us......and it fell on mostly deaf ears. Wherever you are John, thanks for trying.

Almost seems tame now, doesn't it, T2? What's sad is, the Reps still cling to the sinking ship of conservative failure, simply because they don't know what else to do - and they're regretting that little tryst with ol' JeffyLube, even though Rove promised no one would ever know.

Posted by iamcoyote at April 25, 2007 08:27 AM

Still, I'm glad the GOP is going to stick with the sinking ship. It'll make 2008 all that much easier for the Dem candidates. After another year and a half of the Reps defending the continued horror of Iraq, not to mention the scandal-a-day hearings the Dems have planned, the GOP won't be able to field a dog-catcher candidate with a chance to win.

Posted by iamcoyote at April 25, 2007 08:39 AM

Iamcoyote, as much as I hate to admit it, you are right. I hope the GOP Congress members continue their support of the Bush Administration until election day 2008. Bush will go down in history as costing the GOP rule for the next 24 years. Twenty four years in exile is just fine with me.

Posted by Judith at April 25, 2007 09:33 AM

Judith, if the Dems win the presidency, whoemever they elect will be the subject of a GOP led Impeachment before the first mid-term elections. BTW, I don't think any party should be in power for 24 years.

Posted by T2 at April 25, 2007 09:39 AM

T2's probably right about one party being in power for an extended period; though it does take a lot longer for Dems to go corrupt than 'pukes. At least this current crop will be dead and buried, though Rove's next batch of Young Repukes will then try to take over. Sad, but true.

Posted by iamcoyote at April 25, 2007 10:50 AM

But Republicans voice the bitterness and frustration of people chained to the hull of a sinking ship.

They could easily throw Bush over the side but that's not the problem. Republicans need to get back toward the middle and the only way to do that is to go against the machinery which got them elected. No chance of that, so they're chained to Bush, Cheney, Rush, Ann, Sean etc.

This party could go seriously regional in 2008.

Posted by Daryl at April 25, 2007 12:44 PM

Daryl,

They won't even be a very effective regional party. Speaking as one who has lived in the south a long time, if the current trends continue, the GOP won't even capture half of the ex cofederate states next year.
