"What oddities have caught your eye?" well, the miraculous way all the broadcast Media immediatly reported that the Dems were in total disarray and "in a box" due to Bush's veto. Nary a word about Bush having any problem or even attempting to bend to the pubic will. It is the Dems War, apparently, and only Bush can fix it for them. Media Control - a wonderful thing.

Posted by T2 at May 3, 2007 06:14 AM

speaking of maggots...the so called liberal media and Beltway bubble cocktail weenie circuit just want the democrats to stop it now and capitulate to the will of Commander Guy. They just want democrats to give the Boy King Chimperor his no strings attached never ending failed war back and to just STFU as they already made their point by funding the troops.. Why oh why can't we have a better media in this country.... you know one that realizes that the majority of the people in this country prefer the Democratic plan (similar to the Baker led Iraq Survey Group) over more of the same failed policies of Bushco. Can you say, out of touch.

Posted by emal at May 3, 2007 06:34 AM

I actually found the maggot story heartening. In a world where our hospitals have become 'carriers' and the pharmaceuticals work hard to compromise immune systems so that they can ply a whole magic potion bag of high priced cures which indeed finally smother the patients' ability to be cured, it is great to see a lowly maggot eat its way to stardom and SAVE the arrogant humans.

Oh yeah, and Canada has announced a new case of Mad Cow disease today. Interestingly, the article casually mentions that there have indeed been deaths in the US.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070503/ap_on_he_me/canada_mad_cow

Posted by mainsailset at May 3, 2007 07:11 AM

Yeah, if anyone would know about maggots and crap, it would be scout, wouldn't it?

mainsailset, unfortunately, these hospital maggots apparently cost a lot 'cos they're specially bred. Still, it would be great to bypass Big Pharma for once, though they manage to get any holistic treatments labeled as "experimental" or "alternative" which makes insurance companies not want to pay. Thanks for the mad cow link - hadn't seen that one.

Posted by iamcoyote at May 3, 2007 07:33 AM

So, Condi's going to Syria, huh? I can't wait to see all the pundits call her a traitor and bust her ass for wearing a head scarf, can you?

Posted by iamcoyote at May 3, 2007 07:47 AM

Coyote, your're welcome. Don't suppose we can cut the cost of the 'expensive' maggots and get them from Canada, eh?

Posted by mainsailset at May 3, 2007 07:48 AM

Check out the last 2 sentences.

Now we know how Bushie got his MBA. And who thinks it's such a great idea to run gumment like a biz-ness?

Posted by Sharon at May 3, 2007 08:14 AM

Yeah, but Condi's the SecState, not just a lowly Dem House member with no authority at all. I'm sure she'll get rave reviews from Tweedy, Timmy, and all the rest of 'em. Now they can say they have fully embraced the ISG report, they've met with the bad men just like Baker wanted, and told them they are next in line to feel the Shock and Awe of GWBush, Commander Guy.

Posted by T2 at May 3, 2007 08:14 AM

mainsailset, I'll bet Canada's already on it - but it seems to me, if they know how the maggot does its job, couldn't someone synthesize the secretion and use li'l sponges to sop up the waste? I'm not sure how many people would be able to get past the idea of a teabag of maggots in your stomach to get rid of an ulcer. Gak!

Sharon - and Bush is still cheating. Rude Pundit's got another barnburner about the Commander Guy today. Did you listen to him on the radio show yesterday? I'm totally in love with the guy!

T2 - Rachel Maddow was saying yesterday that yet another person at the State Dept has resigned, and no one is willing to work there, so Condi is on her own. I guess if Commander Guy doesn't believe in diplomacy, there's no need for a State Dept is there?

Posted by iamcoyote at May 3, 2007 08:22 AM

another topic: What about Bush's statement yesterday that victory in Iraq would depend on what level of violence the Iraqis are willing to live with. That comment was reported by the Media without much comment, other that nobody knew what to make of it. Tony Snowjob allowed that there's violence in America that we put up with (probably referring to the LA Police) so why should Iraqis be any different. Does anyone wish to speculate why Bush said that and what/if he meant something? Where's the political angle?

Scout, don't waste your energy on the hate.

Posted by mainsailset at May 3, 2007 10:03 AM

I do know the maggots, for sure.

Well, yeah, 'cos I'm sure you have a mirror. Did you also know that your calling for the lynching of the female Dems yesterday was against the law? Yep, it sure is: From Americablog

The law in question criminalizes threats to assault a member of Congress, and can be found in 18 U.S.C. SS 115(a)(1)(B) and 18 U.S.C. SS 115(b)(4). Yes, it's not only a "worse" crime if a member of Congress is punched than if your mom is punched, but it's actually a worse crime if a member of Congress is simply threatened with words than if your mom is actually punched in the face.

So, you committed a hate crime and should be arrested.

Here's some sad news:

SAN DIEGO — Astronaut Walter M. "Wally" Schirra Jr., one of the original Mercury Seven astronauts and the only man to fly on all three of NASA's early space missions, has died at the age of 84, NASA officials confirmed Thursday.

Bummer - I remember being glued to the tv for the space missions when I was a kid. Too bad it's all so ho-hum now unless there's a spectacular accident.

Stuck In Traffic

A driver is stuck in a traffic jam on US 95 south, just outside of Washington. Nothing is moving north or south. Suddenly a man knocks on his window.

The driver rolls down his window and asks, "What happened?" What's the hold up?"

"Terrorists have kidnapped George Bush, Dick Cheney, Jerry Farwell, "Rush Lumbar", John McCain, Bill O’Reilly, Shawn Hannity, Brit Humes and the whole Fox Network. They are asking for a $100 million ransom. Otherwise, they are going to douse them with gasoline and set them on fire. We are going from car to car, taking up a collection."

The driver asks, "On average how much is everyone giving?"
"About a gallon."

Posted by Judith at May 3, 2007 12:26 PM

Judith - hehehe. Good one. Did you hear about Bush being left out of Time's 100 most influential people this year? But Nancy Pelosi's in it. And Time got fookin' Newtie to do the writeup. Can you believe it?

If you're planning to watch the GOP "debate" tonight, here's something to make the experience a little bit more fun: Conservative Failure Buzzword Bingo. Combine it with a nice drinking game and let the party begin!

Happy Birthday today to the Father of Funk.

"Son, you have to play the one"...James Brown.
The essence of Funk is to place the emphasis on the first beat.(DA, da,da, da,da,da,da, da.)

How is this political, you ask?
If the presidents were music, Funk would be Lincoln.

Bush II would be gangsta rap.

Posted by TIKI AL at May 3, 2007 12:36 PM

Nah, TIKI, Bush II would be Pat Boone doing "Stairway to Heaven!"

Posted by iamcoyote at May 3, 2007 12:38 PM

Just saw this:

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has been placed under the protection of the U.S. Secret Service, reportedly because of a threat against him, the Secret Service said Thursday.

You know how history repeats? Why am I feeling the sense of 1968 all over again?

Posted by ann at May 3, 2007 12:47 PM

Thanks, ann, hadn't seen that one. Hmmm. On the same day Bush threatens to veto the hate crimes bill, too.

Posted by iamcoyote at May 3, 2007 12:55 PM

I cannot believe the Veterans Administration has the nerve to hand out bonuses to "senior VA officials"!

"Hundreds of thousands of our veterans remain homeless every day and hundreds of thousands more veterans wait six months or more for VA disability claim decisions," said Paul Sullivan, executive director of Veterans for Common Sense. "The lavish amounts of VA bonus cash would be better spent on a robust plan to cut VA red tape."

Night is day, war is peace, Our God is a loving & forgiving God...it doesn't seem to end!!

Posted by Seven of Six at May 3, 2007 01:32 PM

And speaking of outrage, the Queen of England is visiting here for the 400th anniversary of Jamestown.

She definately has a pair showing up here after burning down DC in the war of 1812.

What is the statute of limitations on arson?

Posted by TIKI AL at May 3, 2007 01:51 PM

Ann, I don't think we can ever forget or repeat RFK or JFK. RFK would have been a great president. If only.

Posted by tempus at May 3, 2007 03:40 PM

Seven, it will never end. We were simply pawns in a game. Only pawns.

Posted by tempus at May 3, 2007 03:46 PM

Pat Boone doing "Stairway to Heaven". That might be better than Robert Plant's latest renditions!

"Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has been placed under the protection of the U.S. Secret Service, reportedly because of a threat against him, the Secret Service said Thursday."

Ann, the news is saying that he is receiving early protection because his crowds are so big.

Posted by Sharon at May 3, 2007 05:43 PM

Ann, the news is saying that he is receiving early protection because his crowds are so big.

Awesome....because that's the earliest in any campaign that they've given a primary candidate protection. He may not win in 2008, but he's got charisma and intelligence and can grow a lot in the next five years.

Posted by ann at May 3, 2007 05:59 PM

RFK would have been a great president. If only.

Indeed. Although I still have hopes for both Edwards and Obama.

Posted by ann at May 3, 2007 06:02 PM

Actually, I heard Hillary already has SS protection, 'cos she's ex-first lady.

Sharon, I actually sent a gushing email. The only regret I have shutting down L&L is that Rude Pundit linked to the blog. Luckily, he doesn't update his blogroll, cos we're still there. Silly, I know!

Posted by iamcoyote at May 3, 2007 06:03 PM

Actually, I heard Hillary already has SS protection, 'cos she's ex-first lady.

Yep, but not because she's Obamarama. She was the First Lady so she already had protection, it has nothing to do with her candidacy. Obama is just hot enough to draw huge crowds and raise tons of cash. What can I say? It's like when Bush was running and people said, "I just like him."

Posted by ann at May 3, 2007 06:56 PM

...gushing....silly...?

I think I got you beat, iamcoyote:
