Comments: Afternoon Grab Bag

I'll try McOld for $50 dollars..His Oldship's appearance on MTP was disturbing. Russert gave him plenty of rope, and Johnny hoisted himself up on his petard repeatedly...But the disturbing part was the little grin McOld tacked on to each of his two-faced answers. Not a "gotcha Timmy" type grin, or a "here's the answer you idiot" type grin, but something more like a contestant on "Are you as Smart as a Fourth Grader" throwing out an answer and knowing it was just stupid B.S.

Apparently CBS is trying to push the idea that Couric's numbers are so low because people "don't want to get their news from a woman." No - they want actual news, not fluff from a professional fluffer. I'd take news from a parrot, if it was actual news and not Bushco propaganda.

Also, Reid's going to put the Feingold measure to end the war up for a vote. Sounds good. And TPM is saying McNulty is out at DOJ!

I, for one, am beyond happy that Law & Order was renewed. The void it's cancellation would have left in my life would have been profound.

Also, just saw this:

NBC's top entertainment executive said Monday that he doesn't expect actor and potential Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson back on "Law & Order" next season.

They claim no insider knowledge of his political aspirations, but I'm guessing he'll give it a go. Should prove an entertaining Republican primary what with his hot young thang wife and Rudy's various female problems over the years. Throw in Gingrich and his divorces and it is game on!

Laura Roslin for President!

Posted by idiosynchronic at May 14, 2007 02:39 PM

ann, he's all they have. Rudy's dust - read today's Rude Pundit for the takedown!

idio - I had to look up Laura Roslin. Isn't her character a religious freak?

Posted by iamcoyote at May 14, 2007 02:48 PM

idio - my bad, she's just smart and ruthless. And condones torture, according to Wiki! No thanks.

Posted by iamcoyote at May 14, 2007 03:20 PM

She'd be better than Fred Frickin' Thompson.

After seven years of doing nothing of consequence on energy independence or the environment,

You mean, after 15 years.
Wait. You mean, after 19 years.
Wait. You mean, after 26 years.
Wait. You mean, after 30 years.

Bush says today that federal agencies should do something about reducing emissions by the time he leaves office. He says this while his administration works to undermine the G8 on global warming.

Bush is demanding a recommendation by the end of 2008 to come up with a plan to cut gasoline usage by 20% by 2017. Let me save some time and give the crew a plan in 2007: "Everyone go out and buy a Toyota hybrid."

T2, what distrubed me about Mr. McOld was the statement that even if the American people, the Iraqis and politicians were for withdrawal from Iraq, he "knows what is best for this Country." Yep, another Dictator along the lines of Mr. GHB. I guess the will of the people just isn't too important anymore.

Ruprecht Murdoch is going green? I'm sure the process involves taking money from the poor and killing the homeless after some fashion.

Katie sucks? Why, yes she does. I gave her one week and never went back. Of course, I scream at Brian Williams because he is almost as big a dick as Katie. And I was certainly in a tizzy over the Pfizer half-hour that was sold as news this evening, but I will never watch CBS news as long as Couric is the ancho...whatever the hell she is.

Bush is demanding a recommendation by the end of 2008 to come up with a plan to cut gasoline usage by 20% by 2017.

Maybe the Buschco faith-based EPA will reinstate some of the standards they tossed in the trash, and start enforcement again? Shit, let's not do that. Some poor investor may lose a nickle! It is much better that we have shit in our water and dark haze over every major city.

"Everyone go out and buy a Toyota hybrid."

It's cool that Toyota figured out how to take long-lived dependable cars and turn them into maintenance nightmares after 100,000 miles.

She'd be better than Fred Frickin' Thompson.

Yeah, you're right, idio. I never did like that guy anyhow. Never saw an L&O ep, though, as you know, I prefer Criminal Intent, but only when Goren is on. I don't get the Chris Noth adulation, myself.

American cars go out at 50,000. So not such a bad deal.

Oh boo hoo. When CBS was considering replacing Bob Schieffer with Couric, poll after poll showed that Couric was not wanted as the replacement for the news anchor position. However, CBS went ahead and gave Couric the job. CBS should have listened to what people wanted.

How can you take toothy Couric, who never misses a chance to kiss the Bush's butt, as a serious news anchor? Remember the Barbara Bush interview at the WH and her phony surprise when Bush I entered the room? I wanted to barf.

From MoveOn:

Congress just made the most significant move ever toward a ban on paperless voting machines. Rep. Rush Holt's bill, H.R. 811, has passed in committee and is headed to a vote by the full House next week.1

The MoveOn petition you signed played a crucial role in the successful committee vote. At the hearing, the Republicans presented dozens of letters from election officials opposed to the bill. But then the Democrats countered by marching in with a printed copy of the MoveOn petition—all 185,000 signatures on 14,000 pages!

But we haven't won yet: Powerful county election officials think paper ballots are unnecessary, and they're lobbying Congress to kill the bill. To win, we need to ask the bill's supporters to stand strong.

Iamcoyote, thanks for the Coulter information. You were right on about that blow job.

Posted by Judith at May 15, 2007 05:18 AM

I wondered if you saw it, Judith. When I heard it on the radio yesterday, I immediately thought of you! And I was just guessing about the bj.

Posted by iamcoyote at May 15, 2007 05:44 AM

By-the-way, Russ Carnahan of Missouri is co-sponsor of H.R. 811.

Iamcoyote, amazing isn't it. I hope there is an investigation into the Knight on the White Horse that saved Annie, The Queen of Mean.

People need to stop calling Lieberman a Democrat. He is an Independent and should be labeled as such.

Lieberman Helps Collect Cash for Collins

Sen. Joe Lieberman is never going to win any popularity contests among his party's liberal base -- a fact he seems decidedly unconcerned about despite his 2006 Democratic primary loss to Ned Lamont.

Lieberman is helping raise money for Republican Susan Collins of Maine, right. Not only has Lieberman endorsed Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine.) -- one of Democrats' biggest targets in the 2008 cycle -- but he's planning to co-host a fundraiser for her on June 21 in Washington, D.C.

So "Connecticut for Leiberman," the independent party, must have a liberal base. I doubt "his base" voted for him then.

Posted by Sharon at May 15, 2007 06:37 AM

Lierberman the Pussy may have a little power right now, but his days are numbered.
