Comments: Congressional Approval Falls To 29%

maybe the falling numbers have something to do with this number:
3400 American GI's now killed in Bush's Iraq War. Congress isn't stopping the slaughter.

Posted by T2 at May 15, 2007 09:47 AM

Could it be that this is probably the most bought off Congress in history. Look at what they're doing on trade and prescription drugs.

Posted by JohnT at May 15, 2007 09:47 AM

Gallup provided no data on why congressional approval fell...

Could a lack of a spine be involved.
Or is it the fact that people are sick and tired of all politicians in general.

I'm sure this is what the repukes had hoped for!

And yet, it's still higher than most of last year's approval ratings for Republicans. I don't believe these kinds of polls mean anything, to tell the truth. They're just used to attempt to create a bandwagon effect by whoever wants to build up or take down whoever the poll favors/doesn't favor. Most people don't know what congress is supposed to do, much less what it can do. When people are pissed, they blame congress. And people are starting to really get pissed about what the gov't is up to.

Meanwhile, the latest CBS-New York Times poll said Bush has dropped to 24 percent in his approval ratings on his handling of the war.

President Nixon's Watergate scandal-plagued polls fell to 23 percent when he was forced to resign from office.

The race to the bottom is nearly complete.

Americans are sick and tired of this War, sick of politicians, sick of Bush, and sick of our Government. What do you expect the poll numbers to be. In November 2006, this Country voted for a plan to end this War, believing that the Democrats would finally bring sanity to our involvement in Iraq. Guess what, they were wrong and this is the backlash.

Posted by Judith at May 15, 2007 11:50 AM

Phidip - ditto

The CBS poll shows that although a huge majority see Bush as a total failure on Iraq, and a large majority want us out, The GOP Media has done a great job with Bush's talking point: don't deny the troops in the field their bullets. A majority don't want the funds cut off - because they been fed that line instead of the way it should be: We are cutting off the funds to CONTINUE Bush's war, and he needs to order the troops home now.

Posted by T2 at May 15, 2007 11:52 AM

Meet the new congress, same as the old congress.

I think The Left Coaster website should continue to advocate the politics of staying in Iraq --over-- doing the right thing of bring the troops home on the assumption that it will benefit the Dems in 2008.

Through May 11, the House had held 341 votes, more than double the number of votes held last year at this point. At this point in 1995, under Speaker Newt Gingrich, the House had taken 326 roll call votes. “When you look at previous Congresses, I think we’re doing okay,” said Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., a member of the freshmen class that helped Democrats assume power.

So far this year, the Senate has taken 162 roll call votes, compared with 119 at this time last year and 121 through mid-May of 2005, when Republicans were in charge. The current Senate is on pace to hold as many votes as the chamber did in 1995. At this point in 1995, the newly minted Republican Senate had held 164 roll call votes.

The office of Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer, D-Md., released a statement last week with 14 bullet points of legislative accomplishments. The accomplishments, though, were weighted toward bills passed by the House but not enacted into law.

Where's the beef? Not in legislation from this Congress.

“So far they’ve only delivered messages, not legislation,” said Rep. Patrick T. McHenry, R-N.C. “They’ve got to deliver something for their activists and donors.” He cited the immigration legislation and a reauthorization of the No Child Left Behind law (PL 107-110) as the Democrats’ best hope.

No minimum wage increase.
No relief for College loans.
No stem cell research amendment.
No ethics reform. They've even relaxed earlier agreed upon rules.

And the war keeps going around and around, gr8t!

And you fucktard republi-cons are still fighting against everyone of these issues.

These issues wouldn't even be heard if it was up to the GOP!

"6 for 06", done in the first 48 hours, plenty of that 100 hour clock leftover. And still nothing to show for it. Twenty votes about the war only to get a veto. Everything else has been stimied except for a Congressional Medal of Honor for Byron Nelson. Very nice for that...thank you very much. 100 days have passed us by. Nothing to show for it except posturing. Some majority.

Posted by peter at May 15, 2007 04:34 PM

As I stated before, you Peter have a lot of arrogant nerve to even approach the subject of what Congress has or has not done. Take a hike.

Posted by Judith at May 15, 2007 04:54 PM

Obviously, President Bush is delivering more than this Congress right now. How sad that a 33% approval rate is above the house that voters voted to change just last November. Many here have been castigating this president for his low numbers. Now your people are even lower. Your Congress has actually made this president look better. Thanks very much Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid for this monumental achievement. Some of you here has labeled him near Nixon, your Congress is worse. What an accomplishment in just 4 short months after an election for change. Wow.

64% disapproval for Congress
62% disapproval for the President.

Whoever you want to compare Bush to as the worst president ever. Your Congress is worse.

Posted by peter at May 15, 2007 08:23 PM

Your Congress has actually made this president look better.

peter, believe me the people are not stupid. They know that the repukes are fighting the Dems every step of the way. And they can. So next election, watch out asswipe, that majority will swing even larger towards the Dems. Probably over 60 votes in the Senate. And the Presidency to boot. Come back then and brag about your victories then. Pissant!

Get with the program peter, your a dying breed!

Posted by Seven of Six at May 15, 2007 08:45 PM

It's still basically higher than the gopper thug congress of the past year.

Hopefully Speaker Pelosi will grasp the concept that she can't incremental bushco away, the fucking media just bleeds those attempts into Dem failures, witless, er, witness, the witless peter above.

Ya gotto go all in Nancy. Put Impeachment back on the fucking table girl, and grab the media by their precious little short hairs in the process.

Hey SOS, I was here on Wednesday after the Tuesday vote in November. I didn't hide or cower. With a Congress like this one, you sure seem to be over playing your 'dying breed' thing. 56.5 million showed up to vote last November. 122 million turned out in 2004. 62 million re-elected the president after a year of bad news events in Iraq, one after another. Seems like you're believing the hype. Go ahead, keep it up, I'll be enjoying Rudi's swaring in on January 20th, 2009. Since the 89th Congress, your Party has been a 'dying breed' until the 2006 vote. Just a hickup similar to the 1976 vote.

Keep up the bluster, overplay the hype. I'll be enjoying the victories.

Posted by peter at May 16, 2007 03:27 AM

Keep talking Bub! I'll see you next November, then we'll talk!
bu$h'$ Iraq and the corruption scandals will drag the republi-con party down for at least 5 election cycles.
Of course, you will always have your tax free mega-churches doing the heavy lifting for you.
