But who exactly is the true heir to Reaganism among this group if the default position is to trash each other..

Well, I would say the big money is on David Duke, Grand Wizard of the Louisiana Ku Klux Klan. Although he is slightly more bent than Reagan was, he is certainly on par with the Reaganites. You know, the proto-humans that admire Reverend Fred Phelps and his moronic, albeit consistent message "God Hates Fags", and are nominating Falwell for sainthood. Well, I guess about half the clergy of virtually all faiths are going to hell.

The only thing that made Reagan at all tolerable was that he had Alzheimer’s, and never really knew where he was, or who he was. This made him fairly docile, apart from the Iran-Contra fiasco, but I doubt he thought that up. I wouldn't say the same about his cabinet or Nancy though. Thoroughly nasty bastards and bitch.

Aggressive militarism, bloated budgets, outsized and growing government, and shredding the Constitution. Seems they are all heir apparents to Ray-gun.

Reagan for all his falts and wrongness was still the LEADER of a conservative movement. A twisted heir to Goldwater and Mccarthy if you will.

Reagan was unpopular before he was popular remember 1980 was his 3rd run for the nomination.

None of these R's running is a leader. None of them has been crying in wilderness for years.

Which is why they arent gelling with the base. theyre all johnny come latellys who even opposed the conservative wing earlier in thier career.

at this rate I think itll be Gingrich who will take Reagan's mantle.

Well, the new bill is being announced. No timelines, but yes, benchmarks tied to reconstruction money, and a Sept. date. Let's see if this much can pass. It's gonna be interesting.

Reid says:

"We now have the timeline that the Republicans have set, and that’s this September. And that’s the very least, and then as I’ve indicated –the Defense authorization– we’re going to start right where we’ve left off with this bill, continuing our push to change direction in the War on Iraq."

John McCain is the crazy uncle in the RNC's attic.

Good question. Reagan came from Eisenhower and Goldwater. I think the closest today is...

Rudy.

Please stop calling certain opponents of this immigration bill anti-immigrant. So many of us are sick to death of being labeled bigots, anti-whatever, when we are merely opposed to this bill in particular and illegal immigration in general. Why is this so terrible? You may not agree, but why does this make us evil? Demonizing us is pretty facile, but it does not constitue an argument.
