What could possibly be the driving force behind these disastrously counterproductive policies? Someday, political scientists will have a cure for this curse. Meanwhile, let's spend more on military solutions. And nuclear power for the Global South.
The past writ large; that's the ticket. I'm writing to Congress right now!
Posted by Pvt. Keepout at May 30, 2007 08:25 AMIt's really not possible at this point to get a handle on just what a completely disastrous misstep the reckless invasion/failed occupation of Iraq has been in the "War on Terra".
Every intelligence agency in the world apparently agrees that more islamist radicals have been created as a result of the Iraq occupation than existed before the invasion, that more intense hatreds/animosities/personal grudges have been created, and that Iraq itself is now a "training gound"-"university"-"hotbed" (pick your depressing description) of jihadist recruitment and education.
We are now doomed to living in a lifelong "retribution loop", just as the foolish Israelis have created for themselves--except as a superpower, we'll be expected (and tempted) to "re-act" much more ferociously and violently with each new terrorist provocation against us.
Heckuva job, Georgie, W.P.E. All that's left for the "trifecta" is to Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran. But even if you fail to "do the right thing" according to Deadeye Dick, your failure is colossal, monumental, and breathtaking in its scope and extent.

In the Mad King's instance, it's the absolute amorality that comes from a family structure telling you that you are always right and everyone else is less than you -slathered in assloads of incompetence.
The CIA reported that all of this would happen. These people chose to ignore it. They took a military structure designed for rapid intervention -a task which it did exceedingly well when asked to- and turned it into an Army of occupation, destroying it's capability to respond to emergencies. The post-analysis is decidedly more complicated than the acts of this administration. The acts were simply incompetent. Any Developmentally Delayed person employed to put dryer sheets into a box could have come up with the exact same plan.

Posted by Christopher at May 30, 2007 09:38 AMBush's policies enables Al Qaeda and vise versa. Kind of a horrific relationship.
Been watching the French news regarding the situation in Algeria, not good. Al Qaeda has been teaming up with the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC)there. Our presence in Iraq only encourages more recruitment of Al Qaeda who has been effective in planting these combatants in other areas like North Africa and Europe.
It just makes me scream when I think that how in the hell doesn't Bush and Co realize the implications of their actions. I'm just a regular person and I swear I can see just how counter-productive and dangerous his policies are to us and internationally.

They usually do.
"This story is so depressing. Words fail me."...(Christopher)
...Why couldn't that happen to scout once in a while?

The deluded in the Bushist camp can't actually "see" that their policies are fueling and aiding bin ladin and the islamists. Certainly the ordinary cretinous "conservative" voter can't see it.
The corporate Bushists can see very clearly what is occuring, but having permanent military bases holding onto Arabian oil is simply more important to them than losing the "war on terra".
Posted by euzoius at May 30, 2007 11:41 AMthe neofascist plan of continuing war is working out well for them, don't you think? only sucks if you are human

My guess is, scout is a masochist. The more ridicule he receives, the better.
Posted by Christopher at May 30, 2007 12:36 PMMy God, you lefties really are conspiracy theorist nutbags. You see Bush's hand in everything. I bet if your milk goes off in the fridge, it's Bush's fault.
Here's a clue. North Africa has always had problems with terrorists blowing things up. It has little to nothing to do with Iraq.
It's just that until now, it didn't get reported.
Posted by CaptainReality at May 31, 2007 12:03 AMOh great. I guess since Scout can't post anymore, the right-wing fruitcake group has sent in a new replacement, CaptainFantasy.
Posted by Judith at May 31, 2007 12:47 AMNice one Judith. Well thought out.
You lot state that Bush's policies are boosting terrorism in Algeria of all places, and then Judith calls me a fruitcake!
Hilarious!
Between 92 and 2002, over 160,000 people were killed in the Algerian civil war. I suppose that was Bush's fault too.
