Hey Erin, welcome aboard.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — A Saudi Arabian detainee died Wednesday at Guantanamo Bay prison and the U.S. military said he apparently committed suicide. Critics of the detention center said the death showed the level of desperation among prisoners.

Also Wednesday, a Canadian detainee fired his American attorneys, leaving him without defense counsel ahead of his trial, his former U.S. military attorney told The Associated Press. The detainee, Omar Khadr, is still to be arraigned and is one of only three of the roughly 380 Guantanamo prisoners to be charged with a crime.

The military did not identify the detainee who died or describe the manner of death. There are about 80 detainees from Saudi Arabia held at Guantanamo.

Guards at the U.S. Naval Base in southeast Cuba found the detainee unresponsive and not breathing in his cell Wednesday afternoon, the U.S. military's Southern Command said in a statement.

Greetings, Erin!

So how did the government's economy growth estimate for the 1st 3 months go from 1.3 to an actual 0.6, and why are we first hearing about it on May 31st?

CNN "expert" is blaming the house flipping fiasco.

Oh well, just stinking great. Erin comes in here and passes around some money for "election expenses", invites people to watch a few games from her skybox, takes a few people to play golf in Scotland or on a "fact finding junket" to the Bahamas, and the next thing you know she's got the votes to be a contributing writer. Lobby reform now!!

I don't think the estimate has ever come close to reality. Every quarter you hear "We're all millionaires!", followed by an adjustment to "Still having trouble paying the bills" a few weeks later.

It was also brought to our attention that the national debt comes out to just over $500,000 per US household.

Ready to pony up your share, phid?

You know. You think there might be some small chance at sanity, some small way that the corporatist mentality in Congress would give way to the rational needs of America. I am consistently wrong. It's never ending.

Chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, Democrat Nick Rahall of West Virginia, is supporting a bill through Congress that makes WINDPOWER ILLEGAL(Subtitle D of H.R. 2337):

So, you want a small windpower generator for your home? Your electric utility invest in wind farms? Too fucking bad. You are going back to coal, natural gas turbines, or nuclear. Period.

Require all existing turbines, even small residential units, to cease operating 6 months after issuance of new FWS rules.

Make it a crime, punishable by a $50,000 fine or a year in jail, to construct or generate electricity from an unapproved turbine, even for home use.

Ready to pony up your share, phid?

Cash or check?

It's amazing that the real deficit, ($1.2 trillion) almost exactly matches the amount of corporate welfare given out by Congress ($1.1 trillion). Hmmmm.......

Phidipides, for several years my Brother-in-law fought Union Electric here in Missouri. He wanted to create electricity for a very small community of four houses and himself by using water. He finally gave up, because he couldn't fight them. Their attitude was if we let you do it...... They also wanted a cut of the action.

Welcome Erin. I represent the tin-foil brigade. ;)

News flash: Did it occur to the Dem leadership that if Bush threatened a second veto of the timeline bill that they could have said: Mr. President, it is with remorse that we must inform you that because of your unwillingness to acknowledge the will of the American people that we are forced to initiate impeachment proceedings for you and Vice President Cheney."

Do you think we'd be holding our breath for some milk toast status report in September if they had done that? *sigh*
