I've got a confession to make.
I've been reconsidering my position on the impeachment of Bush and Cheney these days.
They really are the poster children for Capital I Impeachment.
But then I had a pang of conscience.
Impeaching Bush wouldn't really be fair.
It wouldn't be fair to all those people who bought the little Backwards Bush countdown clock keychains from that website.
They paid their money. They deserve to see this thing through to the end.
Posted by snark at June 2, 2007 07:26 AMDomestic wiretaping, politicizing the DoJ, Katrina, the signing of the National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive and lying the country into an endless war.
There's more than sufficient grounds to order the Article of Impeachment.
But alas, Nancy Pelosi has reassured the GOP (and Bush) that "impeachment is off the table."

I forgot that Arianna Huffington came to fame screaming about President Clinton on national television every night. Then she was sent into the wilderness by cable TV because she was actually'Progressive'and spoke badly of Bush, Jr.
But, now her great national obsession is back and she seems to be gearing up to go after Senator Clinton as she runs for the Presidency.
Posted by Jim DeRosa at June 2, 2007 07:55 AMWhen Pelosi told us "impeachment is off the table," she was really telling Bush he's got nothing to fear but fear itself. How stately.
Posted by Sharon at June 2, 2007 08:16 AMMuch as the thought of linking to redstate.com pains me (My user name is strictly a function of my Nebraska residency), this Linked text is worth a chuckle whether or not Hillary Clinton is your preferred candidate. I can almost hear the heads rolling even as I write this.
Posted by redstater at June 2, 2007 09:10 AMWhen Pelosi said that impeachment was off the table, she was really saying it wouldn't originate with her. Pelosi will follow the consensus of her caucus. (Unfortunately it goes both ways and Pelosi does her best but then has to flow with the caucus when Hoyer and the DLC under cut her.) Nothing is off the table.
Posted by allansfca at June 2, 2007 09:15 AM"There are massive assaults on police officers at the city's harbor right now," said Cordula Feichtinger, a police spokeswoman. "The situation is currently very chaotic."
This comment of the G-8 summit meeting accompanied a CNN photo of a policeman kicking a protester while he was on the ground.
I would like to point out to CNN that it makes them look bad when the photo is the reverse of what is actually happening.

They dooo have a reputation of conservative bias to uphold SoS.
Posted by snark at June 2, 2007 09:37 AMOh, and I wasn't completely forthcoming in my earlier comment.
I bought one of those Backwards Bush keychains myself.
597 days to go!
Posted by snark at June 2, 2007 09:39 AMI gotta say that I, too, am wishing for impeachment, but I don't think it's going to happen. With Bush threatening Iran again, there's got to be some way to stop him. I think, as Glenn Greenwald does, though, that the Dems believe if the war ends, they'll have a harder time getting the presidency in '08. Political calculation.
But speaking of getting shown the door, a caller on Rachel Maddow's show yesterday said that his office is next to a lawyer firm that Abu G used to work for, and the caller said he saw Gonzales leaving the firm the other day. Ya think he's trying to get his old job back since he'll be unemployed soon?

I will gladly write a freeware program that will decrease the Shrub's time left in office to 23 minutes!
And any private firm that hires Gonzo has just committed hari-kari! And Ms. Pelosi needs to spend a long weekend with Jon Voight!!!
The Bush oil-nazis bombed Somalia yesterday? Well, so far in the 21st century, the Bush oil-nazis have murdered people in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan Somalia and Yeman. Quite a fascist feather in your cap, huh Herr Boosh?
Draft all one hundred U. S. Senators and all four hundred and thirty five Representatives, put ‘em in Army uniforms, give ‘em each a flak jacket, a helmet, an M-16 and ship ‘em to Baghdad and send ‘em out on combat patrols. Then our criminal illegal imperial occupation of the sovereign state of Iraq will end so fast that it will make you head spin. Suddenly, our Senators and Representatives will see the wisdom of bring all the troops home immediately and will happily be "supporting the troops" back in the good ole USA… Our present crop of so-called "representatives" in Congress are just a bunch of worthless lying cowardly war-mongering oil-stealing whores for the Bush crime family.
Maybe its time for a new political party, independent of corporate greed that will actually represent us the people instead of the wealthy ruling class and their corporations.
Impeachment. I agree with allansfca, Pelosi won't bring it, but having the memory of the Nixon impeachment, the last appropriate impeachment leads me to believe that the process of investigating and conducting an impeachment builds its own momentum. Under subpoena power, more and more facts could come to light that slowly bring the moderates and eventually even ethical republicans to a vote for impeachment. The love and execution of war by the Bushies might be stopped through impeachment. I don't think anything else is going to work.
Posted by angel at June 2, 2007 12:11 PMIamcoyote, could Gonzo be lawyering-up?
Posted by Judith at June 3, 2007 07:06 AMJudith, I hadn't thought of that; he could be lawyering up. Seems to me, Bush would rather just weather the storm than have a confirmation hearing that would bring up all sorts of stuff about the attorney scandal he'd rather not get more press coverage.
