Greg Palast has been writing about caging lists and the broader schemes of the Republicans to deny voting and voter-registration. He has written a book (Armed Madhouse) and talked for at least a couple years on the subject in conjunction with his BBC work. It's nice Ms Lithwick wrote about it too, but give credit to the guy who really laid all this out.
Posted by gtash at June 4, 2007 03:30 AMPalast also proves that John Kerry was robbed of 3 million votes in 2004.
I wonder if the GOP has already stolen the 2008 presidential election?
Posted by Christopher at June 4, 2007 04:34 AMI've come to the conclusion that vote caging is unimportant to the Congressional Democrats. They don't seem to care unless it's being shoved in their faces. Once it's no longer in the spotlight, their focus goes to crap.
Why is that?
Could it be that they have something to gain by letting caging, and other voting illegalities, to continue?
Posted by idiosynchronic at June 4, 2007 04:44 AMOff topic, and I'm sorry. But 15 US soldiers were killed Sunday, most of which were from Task Force Lightning, but some from Task Force Mame.
When they call a unit by these names, no wonder the Iraqi civilians don't like them.

The Democrats in Congress were elected with caged rolls and the current illegal system put in place by the republi-cons. Why should they fuck with a good thing that got them elected, even if it is broken for some voters?
But 15 US soldiers were killed Sunday
Just commas. Footnotes to the glory of the Mad King, idiot son of George. You should be like a true republi-con patriot and ignore these deaths. To the neo-cons these deaths are no different than bugs splattering on their windshields.
Posted by phidipides at June 4, 2007 07:47 AMP-dip, you know I cannot simply forget them. You, and a few others, know that is impossible. The Middle East is not Wall Street.
Posted by tempus at June 4, 2007 08:00 AMWhy do so many Republicans hate their felow Americans? Because they love power.
Posted by herbal tee at June 4, 2007 08:36 AMIt is so amusing to hear and see Newt Gingrich on TV railing against the incompetence of his own party's President and demanding a fundamental change in the way Government works in Washington D.C. It's the same stuff he trotted out back in the 90's with his Contract on America. Newt still apparently doesn't like the way things work. Maybe he liked it better when he was bedding his intern while impeaching Clinton for the same thing? Maybe that's his idea of good Government, i.e. a place to meet young girls. Newt's problem, of course, is that he holds no elected office, and isn't gonna.
Posted by T2 at June 4, 2007 08:57 AMCan someone tell me why the thread pooper calls Steve a samurai? Of all the silly things he says, this one just doesn't even make sense even according to his trains of thought - the little broken-down pufferbillies that they are.
Posted by idiosynchronic at June 4, 2007 10:39 AMidio, I get the impression that the dork is not only OCD (he's been banned for 3 weeks now and is still trying??WTF??), but I really think he's mentally handicapped. Most people would get that they'll never be able to post here again, but it doesn't seem to sink in. And the silly Democracy crap is the behavior of a 6 year old. Definintely, a poor, brain-damaged soul who shouldn't have access to the 'nets.
Posted by iamcoyote at June 4, 2007 10:53 AMI can't get over the publicity that Jefferson is getting for his bribery case. We all knew it was going to happen but suddenly this is huge news.
Where was the "stop the presses" attitude when DeLay and Ney went down. Seems like it's a little skewed.
OK, MSM pisses me off!
Posted by Seven of Six at June 4, 2007 12:31 PMgtash, of course you are right to say that it was Greg Palast who has been dogging this story since 2004 - he was the one who did the original BBC report. (Thanks for clarifying that point.)
Despite that, we've had no traction on getting this crime into the public eye. Lithwick and others first heard about the crime because of Monica's testimony. (Did Conyer's report mention caging?) It really is a good thing for all of us when Bush crimes are reported in the MSM. Nevertheless, it shouldn't take away from Mr. Palast's scoop.
