Where does the line start for Congressional Democrats to give Bush the authority to begin bombing Tehran?
Posted by Christopher at June 12, 2007 02:03 PMSteve:
I think you are correct about weapons to Taliban are going from Pakistan rather than from Iran. Taliban is a creation of Pakistan way back and they do have a close relationship with each other. On the other hand, Taliban being Sunnis, they are in a way enemy of Shia Iran.
Now the weapons that are going from Pakistan are US made as Pakistan buys most of the weaponary from us. So now American weapons will be killing American soldiers in Afghanistan. What a mess.

"I think it's a major miscalculation." said Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns without even a hint of irony.
Where does the line start for Congressional Democrats to give Bush the authority to begin bombing Tehran?
Here, let me imitate the Democrat party line:
"Sigh! (a big fucking gut wrenching, southern hysterical swooning at the Cotillion, eyes rolling around, sad faced look like a kid who just got caught with his hand in the cookie jar sigh) Oh, sigh! They just don't have the votes to prevent it."

The Pakistanis have a long tradition of illegal arms manufacturing. They can copy any small and medium arms you've got and sell you as many as you want...really cheap. And just think. They have nukes, too.
Posted by phidipides at June 12, 2007 02:18 PMThey (the Bushites) are just pissed because the Iranians are getting the money from these arms sales rather than their friends in the arms industry. They're stamping their little feet and screaming: "No fair".
To wit: If we can sell to both the Shia and Sunni insurgents in Iraq, why can't we also "arm" the Taliban? Boo Hoo.
Posted by nlacey at June 12, 2007 02:22 PMconveniently forgotten is the fact that Iran cooperated with Bush in the original post 9/11 War on Taliban in Afghanistan. Also conveniently forgotten is the US approved safe houses provided Taliban by Pakistan. Cheney/Bush will fabricate whatever cover story they need to fan the fire. Something tells me that we won't get out of the Bush Regime without an attack on Iran. Politically, the time to do it is between now and the beginning of the Presidential Primaries, or between the 08 election and Bush's swearing out 1/09. If they've made up their "mind" not to let Iran get nukes, I just don't see it happening a year from now. So, the window would seem to be from now until January. Hummm....September was supposed to be the deadline for Iraq...Wouldn't it be crazy to attack Iran with 180,000 GI's only a few miles away? Or was the Surge simply a pre-Iran War build-up?
Posted by T2 at June 12, 2007 02:26 PMUnfortunately, Musharraf's position is getting shakier - there are reports that he'll be ousted soon. So did Bush drive the Taliban back to their old friends in Pakistan, only to have them overthrow our "ally" and get their hands on the nukes?
Posted by iamcoyote at June 12, 2007 02:27 PMLieberman (I-Dick Cheney) is the Cheney wing of the Administration's front man on this issue. He came out on a Sunday to spout the bomb Iran mantra because everyone knows anyone from the current administration has no credibility anymore. Coincidence...nothing orchestrated by Dick Cheney is a coincidence...nothing.
Posted by emal at June 12, 2007 02:36 PMCoyote, hon, Musharraf has been so shaky for so long it's been like watching a 15 year-old couple engaging in their first knee-quaking make out session. How they don't fall down is a miracle of modern proportions. Need I say who he's been macking on?

Damn, that brings back some memories.

phidipides, LMAO. Or:
1. got to support the troops
2. don't want to look soft on national defense
3. we've promised to "work with the president"
I can just see Lieberman at the U.N. holding up a vile of poison pistaccios that were delivered to General Petraeous as he points to the "Product of Iran" stamp at the bottom.
Good enough, give Cheney the football codes, they must pay, and pay dearly.
Posted by TIKI AL at June 12, 2007 03:09 PM*sigh* Idio, yep, good times, sweetie darling. Try Zen Cabin Friday nights, there's always a party!
Still, it's a new round of protests and assassination attempts goin' on. It's worrisome. He'll topple if Cheney does Iran. Then, it's all over but the fallout.
Posted by iamcoyote at June 12, 2007 03:12 PMAny day now we'll hear that they know where the weapons are, "east, west, north, and south somewhat."
Posted by biggerbox at June 12, 2007 04:37 PMThis is an obvious lie to anyone who's read a couple of newspaper articles about the region. The Taliban are fanatical Sunni. The Iranians are Shi'a. Maybe they can fool Mitt Romney, but I hope to God the American people can see through this gang by now.
Posted by Delia at June 12, 2007 05:58 PMWaist deep in the Big Muddy! And the big fool says to push on!
And by the way Ambassador Burns, how went your recent sales trip to non-NPT India on behalf of your corporate nuclear power patrons?
