Schrum on Daily Show last night ..... I thought Jon did a good job of asking him questions about how he earns his living. When it was apparent he was not comfortable he wanted to tell a 5 minute long "story". What a leach!

I WANT MY COUNTRY BACK AND THE CONSTITUTION TOO!!
Posted by mparker at June 13, 2007 06:24 AMMarcy is one of the few, kudos. So are you folks. After the election, you remained meaningful, thoughtful and obligatory.
Posted by oldtree at June 13, 2007 07:37 AMGo vote for Bill Richardson in MyDD's June straw poll now!
http://demochoice.org/dcballot.php?poll=200706
Richardson for President!
De-Authorize the Iraq war now!
Posted by CNYAlison at June 13, 2007 07:53 AMAfter looking at some poll numbers the Democratic Congress is starting to take a harder look at its Iraq policy.
I hate it when the congress tries to govern by looking at poll numbers.
Wait, it's starting to move this beached whale of a government, who can be disappointed in that.
Posted by Seven of Six at June 13, 2007 08:05 AMMarcy is a hero and a visionary.
Posted by euzoius at June 13, 2007 08:56 AMwho is on the trail of Bush crimes and who will never let up until they are brought to justice
Unfortunately, the justice part will never happen. Marcy is doing wonderful work, but when I watch Congressional Investigations of the Justice Department and their activities (justice) that shows such blatant disregard for the rule of law and the Constitution, yet this Democrat Congress takes a month (and what the hell for except to let a Paris moment come along) to fuckup a no confidence vote, I can assure you nothing will come of this. And that is simply because there are Democrats running the process. The past 6 months can lead to no other conclusion.
Marcy could find a signed and notarized -witnessed by the Pope and Jesus- confession to War Crimes by the Mad King, idiot son of George, and this Democrat Congress would be unable to take advantage of it.
Posted by phidipides at June 13, 2007 08:56 AMSoS,
The article you linked to says the exact opposite. It say that the Democrats understand the publics anger but are 'undeterred' by it.
From the article;
Representatives of Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Democrats were undeterred by the public's anger.
"The American people are rightly frustrated with the ongoing war in Iraq, and Democrats will continue to work with Republicans to force the president to change direction in Iraq so our troops can come home and we can refocus our efforts on fighting terrorism," said Pelosi spokesman Nadeam Elshami.
How does that spell legislating by poll?
I hate it when the congress tries to govern by looking at poll numbers.
Me too. So I'm glad they're not.
emptywheel's (marcy wheeler's) combination of
passion for justice,
sense of fairness,
intellect,
persistence,
hard work,
and intellectual honesty
is truely extrordinary
in a weblog world where most share some of these attributes.
if i recall correctly,
when she started out on this journey,
she wrote that she wanted to put a stake thru the heart of the never-die iran contra schemers - many of whom have shown up again in this bush administratin to cause yet more problems for our political system and our society.
she is doing a damn good job of making, sharpening, and driving those stakes.
remarkable person
and an enormous civic asset for this country!
Posted by orionATl at June 13, 2007 09:08 AMRight snark, so Harry Reid making this comment, is not due to their slide in the polls?
They are watching the polls, believe me they would stupid if they weren't.
Polls are the only way for Dems in congress to get the hint that they are fucking up.
My phone calls sure don't seem to help.
Reid's comment, the entire ThinkProgress piece in fact, doesn't mention polls.
It has been my understanding that that has been the Dems strategy for quite some time; to take the withdrawal/draw down issue back up with the Defense Authorization bill. It's a no brainer. That's their next opportunity to affect the funding of the war. Reid may not have said it publically but I assumed that would be their next move, as did Steve. Reid didn't say anything really new in that piece. And he certainly didn't say anything about changing his policy objectives because of poor poll numbers.
Posted by at June 13, 2007 10:00 AMSorry, this damn thing won't keep me signed in.
That previous comment was mine.
Posted by snark at June 13, 2007 10:02 AMMy phone calls sure don't seem to help.
Well, that just means you aren't a K Street lobbyest. Those calls always get their attention. You are a silly citizen voter, SoS. You thought your input mattered to them.
From your link: "Similar provisions were stripped from the emergency war spending bill signed last month by President Bush. But Reid said the new push would be different."
ROFLMAO!! Will they try and set a new record for rolling over and funding the war? Will they try and see who can get the biggest K Street donation from the military/industrial complex? Is that the difference? Will he roll his eyes even more when he "sighs", puts that look on his face that makes him look like he has the vapors, and says "We couldn't leave the troops unfunded, and we just didn't have enough votes."
Posted by phidipides at June 13, 2007 10:17 AMHow right you are phid.
I posted my frustration at my blog.
(sorry for the blogwhoring)
Posted by Seven of Six at June 13, 2007 10:36 AM(sorry for the blogwhoring)
At least you're not a whore who is blogging.
Posted by phidipides at June 13, 2007 10:44 AMNot much of an emptywheel appreciation thread, which is unfortunate. This one seems like it should be about the messenger (or in this case one of the best blogging Furies out there) and not the message. There are a lot of ways to look at the current situation/crisis and to be encouraged by progress or frustrated by everything else, but the discussion and its clear fact basis is richer, a whole lot richer, because of ew and a few other blog superheroes like her. The irony is that just as the MSM failed an evolving information network developed in such a way that there's more news, facts and informed discussion and opinion than ever before. Emptywheel became a star at a propitious moment, liveblogging the Libby trial, but she worked hard to get there, and she has only gotten stronger and more confident since then.
It's a good thing. And thanks for the opportunity to show appreciation and get the word out. The work is crucially important, and she's doing it as well as anybody out there.
Posted by zhiv at June 13, 2007 11:08 AMSure Marcy became a star at a propitious moment, but it was her diligence on the entire Plame scandal and the piecing together of scattered information that really lead up to that moment.
I am really glad that the left blogosphere has gained so much credibility in the past couple of years to allow it to happen. It has continued with others like Glenn Greenwald whose excellent writing (especially breaking down complicated matters so that casual readers can understand) has earned him a prominent spot at Salon.
Hats off to EW, digby and all of the other writers in my favorites folder who have brought reason, insight and sanity back into general and political news coverage.
Posted by zAmboni at June 13, 2007 01:09 PMBTW, Marcy is a cool person to drink a beer with also. Got to meet her when Kos came into town during his book tour. I just wish I had a fraction of the energy and passion that she does...

I've been let down once to often, but no more. I'm not playing that game anymore.
