your headline makes an interesting point Steve. For all the secret deals, unconstitutional activities, subverting of Justice, lying us into Wars...what exactly does Cheney and Bush have to show? The answer is absolutely nothing that benefits the American people. They have produced nothing in the way of substantial social gains for us, produced no productive and solid legislation that makes the USA a better place. They have given Foreign Policy a black eye that may take decades to repair and put us in a War that they are clearly losing on every front at the sacrifice of thousands of Americans and uncounted (literally) Billions in expenses that may cripple the government for years. Hollywood's most talented script writers could never have written a script with a more crooked, inept, plain crazy duo. They are failures, and crooked ones to boot.

Cheney is a law-breaking, constitution-destroying monster, the evil evolution of the worst impulses of the Dick Nixon regime, which have been putrifying and rotting in Deadeye Dick's pathological deranged mind over the course of three decades. He either is challenged, or (by our inaction) he prevails and turns the "republic" into his bizarre "executive authority" regime for other "presidents" to adopt if they choose.
The republic must take a formal stand against this executive-authoritarian shit dressed up as something "based" in our constitution. It is not, and it is a most foul, pernicious perversion of our of system of government.
Time to take a stand, force everyone to lay their cards on the table.
House: impeach Cheney, lay out his admitted crimes and constitutional distortions and force the Authoritarian Right in the senate to choose: you either stand with the constitution and the rule of law or you stand with the psychotic Deadeye---you're either with the republic or against it.
Which is it, Repubs? Time to vote.

Well, if their goal was to actually find and prosecute terrorists, then, no, the Cheney Gang haven't accomplished anything. But that's never been the goal, has it? Terror is the method they use to work toward their real goal, which is to consolidate power, and create a permanent Republican rule. And it's worked. They have cronies in every position of power in government now, they've disabled the justice department and all this stuff coming out about Cheney means they don't care who knows it anymore, they've got what they wanted, and more! Now that the left has turned against the Democrats, the only ones standing between the people and the would-be rulers at this point, (no matter how ineffective they appear to be), there's nothing to stop them from finishing off the dictatorship they've been hankering for.
Posted by iamcoyote at June 25, 2007 09:01 AMCheney needs to be sent to Gitmo.
Posted by God Of War at June 25, 2007 09:26 AMThe idiots will just claim that since we haven't been attacked since 9/11 then that proves that what the fascists are doing is protecting us. (And by some fever-dream logic: that Saddam was behind 9/11 and that invading Iraq was the right thing to do.)
Sorry for the cynicism but the longer we put up with this sh*t, the more it suits us.
Posted by citizen Able at June 25, 2007 09:27 AMDeadeye took an oath to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." Instead, he's damaged the Constitution more than anyone in the history of the republic. If the Democrats can't summon the political will to impeach this criminal, the least they can do is remind the American people all day every day that Dick Cheney is a corrupt, lying traitor who's enriched himself by sacrificing the lives of American soldiers.
Posted by dalloway at June 25, 2007 09:43 AMCheney has achieved the gratitude of the oil, banking, and defense industries and every wealthy person in America.
The back-room and back-alley deal recipients will start to be exposed when he is out of office and safely ensconced in his penthouse in the Dubai Towers.

It's interesting to note the evolution of this "monster". All his public service, private service, and PNAC association combined to make him the most callous "executive-authoritarian shit".
Once he got the v/p slot he really decided to use it for all the evil he could muster.
Add the 6 years of lock step republi-cons in congress and KKKarl Rove working the RNC, and the votes, 'we the people' are virtually fucked!
I never though in my lifetime I would say, "I have seen the worst US politician ever", but "The Dick" Cheney is now the standard. Makes "Tricky Dick" Nixon look harmless.
Impeachment is the only answer for this rougue, vile, corrupt, depraved, souless human.

...now that's saying something!

This is not unusual at all. This is something that should not draw an iota of surprise. Why? It is because it this 'benefit' that so many keep thinking will happen, has never happened, and cannot happen.
What is interesting here is why so many continue to believe that other administrations have 'produced good for us.'
What 'other administrations' have produced is a staging ground for the mini-apocalypse of the Bush Cheney regimes; they have produced a stage for a fascism organically gestated from the American ruling classes.
How on earth could the guaranteed continuance of rule, both politically and economically, by a plutocratic capitalist oligarchy produce 'anything good' for the American people?
The answer is they cannot.
The only thing of interest here is why Americans do not and cannot know this, to the point of destroying this plutocracy?
A large part of the answer is that Americans love this plutocracy, even at the same moment they allegedly oppose it.
Posted by Jill Bains at June 25, 2007 10:46 AMJill,
In other words, Cheney is no worse than all the rest of them. "It's the system." Individuals make no difference.
But if Cheney is no worse than the rest of them, then what is all the fuss about?
If Gore were president, nothing would be different, right?
What you say sounds like warmed-over Nader and/or Chomsky.
Yes, Jill, we know there's a system. And yet, in that system there are still very bad people, and less bad people, and yes, maybe even good people. I know that must sound awfully quaint.
Everyone is a pawn in Cheney's megalomaniacal worldview...including George W. Bush.
