Comments: In What Kind of Countries Does That happen?

No, Mr. Miller, I didn't forget.

I don't forget, George. Nope, not ever. Get used to it.

Perhaps what we should be looking at is what happens to the Cheney Precedents when (and if?) Bush steps aside in 2008.

Who will (is?) in control of the campaign to destroy our country?

Posted by Nobody at June 25, 2007 10:12 AM

The matter is exceedingly simple: If Bush and many of his cohorts are not merely impeached, but end up evading jail time, what does that say about America?

-But we already know that, don't we? Yet for some curious reason proceed as if we don't.

Stranger yet, is that most believe this malfeasance only commenced with the arrival of the Bush Administration.

Americans who know better risk political marginalization and fierce opprobrium so they end up rationalizing the Democratic party.

There we have the gist of the incoherence endemic to American politics.

The grim truth is that it cannot be reformed by its own dynamics, but it must be destroyed by any agency possible.

I think, too, that once impeachment hearings begin and Cheney can no longer hide behind executive (or not) privilege that the exposure of the staggering amount of wrong-doing that has been hidden away in darkness will trigger a gigantic shitslide of revelations that will quite literally stun all of us. I cannot think of a more effective catharsis for this country. I hope to the gods that we see it.

Its been my theory that the reason that Busco has not been impeached for taking us to war on lies is that the Dems knew back then that they were lies. Impeaching Bush would result in being shown as accomplices. Certainly this is true for Hillary. Bill knew in 1998, that all the WMDs had been destroyed and yet he bombed Iraq in an attempt to unseat Saddam.

Just my theory but its consistent with known events.

Paradox (and others advocating for impeachment):
Yes, by all means, BushCo (both of them) should be impeached for their crimes. The sad part is, the Republicans' use of that instrument in `98 against Clinton has cheapened it: they used it, not because of a serious constitutional crisis, but as a means of damaging Clinton and his presidency (and to inflict collateral damage on Gore's 2000 presidential chances). But the public was on to the GOP's malfeasance, and rebuked them harshly in the `98 elections over the issue. And because of how/why the Repubs used it, the Dems now can't go on a limb and do the same thing. (However, I do agree that the current Dem makeup also lacks a spine to take the issue before the public and act out of pure conviction.)

If we start the fight to impeach, Republicans will get mad at us and we won’t be able to get anything done.

Oh my goodness! We wouldn't want to make the Republicans mad at us now would we?

Impeachment? Pish!

Bush is safe, as the great and powerful Nancy Pelosi assured them (and all of Jesusland) that "Impeachment is off the table." An irresponsible declaration that guaranteed Bush he was free to wreck havoc, start new wars and veto important bills like funding for stem cell research.

He's in good hands with Nancy. ~wink~

Bush is self-destructing nicely,...

Oh, god are Democrats dumb. These SOBs are back on offense -- as witnessed by how in the past few weeks they've managed to get all the MSM (including PBS and NPR) to drop "insurgent" in favor of "al qaida" -- and in those few weeks 5% more Americans think Iraq had something to do with 9/11 -- these idiots would buy anything.

Unless Iran takes the bait and attacks a US asset (the big dream of Bush and Cheney), the bombing of Iran will begin in the first quarter of 2008.

It will be a long time before we recover the country we knew. It is America's most pressing need to face the crimes of this administration, because a public so ill-informed about Bush&Cheney's abuse of power needs to be schooled by congressional investigations and trials in the Senate.

But of course the public will not be allowed to see how the game is rigged. What is to be concealed is not especially even the criminals themselves, but all the structures and layers of criminality, the collusion and corruption, blackmail, profiteering, and all the scum and creepy-crawly things under the rock of privatization.

Bush will be self-destructing nicely when he starts another war; and the man-sized vaults in the Vice President's office will swing shut, the logs will be destroyed, while the prostitute press yammers on about al-Qaeda. Bush is like an arsonist, setting fires everywhere and snickering under his breath. If the American people can't see justice done for the historic domestic crime, war crimes and crimes against humanity done by this Executive, then this country will never again be able to hold its head up in the company of civilized nations.

"Cibola! My life for you!!!"

Though I will admit...Cheney is a poor stand-in for Flagg.

Heh, Bush as Trashcan man. Got that right.

can anyone believe that Dodd says it is a waste of time to impeach him?
I do hope Dodd's state throws him out for being a waste of space inside an empty suit. Why would we elect someone that would want a criminal to get off scott free, tell me that again Senator?

Posted by oldtree at June 25, 2007 03:41 PM

Why do you assume impeachment is limited to time in office? He can be impeached afterwards for conduct while in office. I strongly suspect that the outgoing adminstration will leave a scorched earth in the attempt to cover their misdeeds. Truth will out: I'm certain in their attempts to cover their butts they'll burn some of their folk, a la scooter. But unlike the freshly pardoned scooter, No relief for you guys!

If G.W. Bush's contributionto the "common weal" is to serve as an example to all future admistrations, so let it be.

Sorry this is off topic but we have devised a plan to put pressure on the press. They think we are not out here seething. Well, we are. Please check out my homepage to see what we are planning

Hmmm... sorta like letting off a murderer because having a trial would rally support for him?

Dawkins forbid that the Democrats would want to, for once, do something that's morally right.
