Comments: Finally, The Subpoenas

Wonderful. I am glad that the Senate Judiciary Committee has finally shown some guts.

Don't be naieve about the Court. The Supremes are in Bush's bag. What we need to do is to defund the agencies that will not comply. Just completely defund them. Internal agency politics and the need for the minions to keep their jobs will make info flow. Moreover, these agencies do more harm than good. The less they achieve in fomenting authoritarianism, the better.

Start with defunding the Office of Vice President. Leave Cheney with only a single computer, a home office, and a single secretary who has to clean the bathroom and take out the trash to. He can drive himself if he stays sober!

No secretary for Dick, he gets to use a donated Vinny St. Paul Windows 98, and cleans the crapper himself.

You bleeding hearts make me sick.

Certainly, many at TLC are justifiably outraged at potentially serious alleged criminal activity violating our Constitutional and statutory law with respect to civil rights, privacy and gross executive misconduct implied by these subpoenas.

However, let's not lose sight of the fact that many of these alleged wrongs could not have been perpetrated without the active, willful and essential participation of some very large and stupendously resourced data, signal and voice telecommunications corporations. It is the patriotic duty of any American financially or otherwise damaged, however remotely, by such corporate criminal accessories to hoover every last cent possible out of these miscreants that our judiciary can be persuaded to allow.

TIKI AL:

You're being way too soft on Dick. I say, give him an old Leading Edge and stick him with WordStar.

I don't think the Dems should go to court. Instead, they should subpoena mid-level people (like Harriet Miers) who don't have secret service protection. If she refuses to show up, send the sgt. at arms to forcibly bring her in. If she refuses to testify, have the sgt. at arms detain her as a "material witness" until such time as she agrees to testify.

That way, time is on our side --- we've got Miers cooking in jail while the exec branch tries to figure out a way to get her released.

I also want the sergeant-at-arms to make some house calls. The oldtimers like Leahy and Conyers are "experienced" prosecutors---I have heard that couple dozen times. But their timing seems all wrong to me. The pace has to pick up if they expect to truly bring this not only to light, but into a court of law. I know many do not believe it was ever intended to get into a court of law. When things move at this snail's pace, it would certainly seem so. But the public is not going to be satisfied with incumbent Dems if they let these guys get away scot-free.

The Dems believe in political processes and the weight of tradition in their procedures. The Republicans , and the White House in particular, do not. How much plainer can it get when the OVP claims to be the 4th Branch of government, in public, in front of God and Everybody---and what happens? Rahm Emanual thinks he is standing on his hindlegs when he says "The VP has a choice to make..."

The Vice President SHOULD NOT BE OFFERED A CHOICE IN THE MATTER AT ALL. Since when did he have " a choice"?

They could file a writ of habeas cor---- Oops.

Never mind.

OK, Cheney should have to crank out his secret orders on a Gutenberg press. Dual use for thumbscrews.

Now don't come back with cave drawings.

The short cut to getting the requested documents is to put impeachment back on the table.

Democrats are delusional if they think they can get anything done without a veto proof majority.

Im not counting on Dopey and Darth leaving office when their term is up. Another "terorist" attack, Martial Law, and who needs paper trails?
