There is more than enough evidience of criminal activity by the president to begin hearings towards impeachment. Pelosi needs to get her head out of her ass and get off her back with her corporate Johns for just long enough to do something that would be productive and maybe give us back a sense of decency in this country.
But as the Pope said when he met Pelosi standing in front of him: "Why, Madam Speaker, most are on their knees when I meet them." To which she replied, "I like to do it that way, just don't thrust and make me gag."
Posted by phidipides at June 28, 2007 08:25 AMthis assumes the court will do something other than roll for their appointer. it's over for us. our government has been paid for, the courts have been installed to hide it and approve it.
good luck to you and yours. they can't afford for their crimes to get out unless they are going to flee the country. they will not flee the country if they can enforce their coup
what's it going to be?
Posted by oldtree at June 28, 2007 08:27 AM"What are they hiding?" I don't think they are hiding anything. We know they rigged the 2000 election and then stole it when the rig failed in FLA. We know they looked the other way when directly warned about a Bin Laden attack. We know they manufactured "intelligence" to con the nation into the Iraq War. We know they never had any plan as to what would happen in Iraq after the invasion. We know they have stonewalled every investigation into all the above. We know the Vice President has participated in the outing of a CIA agent. We know that torture of war prisoners did occur and was condoned. We know that US Atty's were made into political pawns. We know lots about Bush/Cheney - they have really done a poor job of hiding any of it. The question shouldn't be "what are they hiding?" it should be "why hasn't any penalty been assessed for what we already know they have done?".

phidipides, Pelosi needs to step down as Speaker and hand Henry Waxman the Gavel.
One too many declarations of, "Impeachment is off the table," and, "Bush isn't worth impeaching," and the base no longer trusts her. The poor woman now spends her days reassuring worried Democrats that's she's really a member of the tribe.
Posted by Christopher at June 28, 2007 09:08 AMI just read that congress wants to give itself a $4400 dollar a year pay raise. Apparently that is the yearly cost of keeping their powder drY.
Posted by emal at June 28, 2007 09:17 AMSo is Cheeeney able to use executive privilege if he isn't in the Executive branch?
Posted by yesyesyes at June 28, 2007 09:59 AMThis sums it up.
Dick Cheney takes over USAF base. Launches nuclear strike
http://smartstartup.typepad.com/my_weblog/2007/06/dick-cheney-tak.html
As T2 says, we already actually know why Nero/Deadeye/KKKarl won't relaese documents relating to firing the attorneys. But Congress needs the proof.
According to Balkinization, Bush's written assertion of Nixonian executive privilege basically maintains that since he can fire US attorneys for any reason, Congress has no need to see what the reason was.
Sort of an odd executive privilege claim. And basically an admission that the reasons for the firings would look really, really bad. So the nation can't see them.
Your "republic" in operation.
Posted by euzoius at June 28, 2007 10:58 AMTo find out just how bad Cheney has been, Waxman needs only to get a warrant for that "portrait of a Dick" in the attic of the Vice President's residence.
I'm thinking it will make the portrait of Dorien Grey pale by comparison.
I hope that was a very low Japanese cocktail table that impeachment was taken off of. Put it back up there, Nancy, that nice portrait of you in your attic is starting to show a frown.
Put it back up there, Nancy, that nice portrait of you in your attic is starting to show a frown.
And looking like a porcupine from pipe being laid to her by the corporate lobbys.
Congress is just useless.
Today Rep. Emmanual from California introduced an amendment to the Executive Branch Appropriations bill to defund the Executive Branch portion of the Office of the Vice President. This left the Senate funding for the President of the Senate duties (the only duties set out in the Constitution) intact.
The measuere failed by about six votes.
Had it passed, the bad guys in the VEEP's office would have been defunded.
Congress is useless as a check on the Unitary Executive and Bush and Cheney know it.
The Bush/Cheney coup is not about to happen, it already has succeeded.
Woe is Us.

The problem is that they never pound this message home. You NEVER hear the Dems speak about these things, you read them in the progressive blogs. No one else out there has half a clue! I am ready to start screaming in frustration.
Posted by via at June 28, 2007 06:06 PMI don't get why the Dems have such a problem here.
This WH achieved dominance, abused it, and has thus far dodged accountability by exploiting info they've gleaned by making others live in fishbowls, while the Executive and a few cronies have worked in total opacity.
Their mantra about the suspension of habeas corpus and untrammeled peeping into private lives has been that if people aren't HIDING ANYTHING they have NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT.
I'm still gobsmacked that Dems didn't make a public issue about Jeff Gannon as a security breach. It would have established not only WH hypocrisy on moral values, but given Dems a go-to deflator on WH claims that security is behind every new accountability dodging, CYA case of privilege and stonewalling.
Dems just have to throw that back into the Exec's smirking faces. [/can't anybody here play this game?!? - Casey Stengel later referenced by Tom Hanks]
Posted by Ellie at June 28, 2007 06:27 PMNo, they can't, according to the DCCCer who called asking for money. They 'rarely get invited onto MSM'. They have to 'kick and scream' to get any coverage. Holy shit, people. Why aren't you kicking a screaming?
Posted by via at June 28, 2007 06:58 PMi like that about president gore just telling the GOP to go fuck themselves. oh that's a good one
and just the way it should be.
but knowing how lacking in balls most of the demorats are, it won't come to pass.
Posted by michael72 at June 28, 2007 11:48 PMWhat happens if this administration does run out the clock? When the Bush administration ends, does this mean that all investigations also end? The ability of Congress to act on the findings would be limited, of course, but it's important for the truth to come out. Can Congress continue investigations? Would they? Do others think it is important?
