Comments: Panic Mode Sets In

McOld will be in Iraq next week. Can't wait for his assessment of the Occupation and the Surge.

The Iraq war is costing the country $10 billion a month, and Bush has just wasted another several hundred lives and $60 billion on his lab experiment against the advice of the military just because he was more worried about his manhood than he was about being commander in chief.

Why can't someone in the Dem braintrust or TeeVee corps utter this simple, factual, compelling clear eyed phrase during media appearances? And keep saying it?

You know, instead of the consultant committee million dollar ptooey like, Together America can do better! or the mouth stumbles about how our "side" doesn't hate the troops or want them to die without a hearty breakfast first?

Recruitment quotas have been missed 2 months in a row now.

How is it possible that 59 million voters that thought it was a great idea to put war criminals back in the white house can't come up with 1400 soldiers to stand by their convictions?

TIKI AL, what a fabulous statement and a good question. What has happened to all those Hawks that believe war is the answer and especially this War?

Posted by Judith at July 9, 2007 07:25 PM

"the Iraqis are meeting none of the benchmarks that Bush expected of them in deciding to go with The Surge last winter"

OK, let me see if I understand this:

The surge is failing (surprise, surprise!), and it's all the fault of the Iraqis for not meeting the "benchmarks" demanded of them by the people who destroyed their country.

Is that it?

Judith, tampered with electronic voting machines can't send their shadow glitch offspring to the recruiting office.

So a $10 billion/month for Iraq (+$2 billion/month for Afghanistan), $600+ billion p.a. military establishment can't defeat indigenous resistance armed (for now) with little more than antiquated company grade weapons, conventional explosives and a whole lot of moral advantage?

And who benefits? Al Qaeda, China, Iran and the war economy, but not the people, of America. At the expense and opportunity cost of unmet social needs in education, energy, health care, housing, transportation and a host of other productive applications.

No doubt many questions will arise as the public and Congress deal with the FY '08 DOD Authorization, but few will ask why it's said to be about "defense" and "national security" when results clearly indicate otherwise.

Joe-mentum was just popping off about the surge success the other day....what a bunch!

"Recruitment quotas have been missed 2 months in a row now."

-(Tiki Al)

Does this include the Air Force which is the true terror locus of the terror state?

"Al Qaeda, China, Iran and the war economy, but not the people, of America..."

And not a word - not a syllable - not even a passing thought for the people whose lives and country have been crushed beyond repair. What's that? Who? Oh, them - well, yeah, sure, I guess so, I mean...

Shirin, we are going to owe the people of Iraq more than we could ever pay.

no attack since 9/11 just coincidence

when it comes after we leave that will be

coincidental also

Jill, that was a difficult article to read. I had no idea. The question, who is the barbarian? The answer, it is us.

Posted by Judith at July 10, 2007 03:20 AM

Mike, since people of like minds like Bush, Cheney, and Kristol love the smell of death if there is profit in it, sacrificing another 3,000 Americans, under a Democratic President, will be their first order of business.

And no, I am not taking my tin foil hat off.

No attack from 93 till 01 with no defense in place. 8 years

No attack from 01 till 07. 6 years in Sept.

Your point?

Oh Anonymous One, you took the words right outta my mouth. I heard what Cheney said, (paraphrase) "Elect Kerry and all hell'll break loose." That man deserves to be behind bars.

shirin,

Perhaps you overlooked the following twenty two (22) words and multiple, complex thoughts:

"indigenous resistance armed (for now) with little more than antiquated company grade weapons, conventional explosives and a whole lot of moral advantage?"

Regards,
