Instead of wasting energy, and risking blowback, let's not impeach either of them, rather we pass the laws that clarify the constitutional breaches bush found. Let's pass laws that openly outlaw what he's done, and pass them right up to him. Make these laws simple and decent. Make them read between the lines like the Constitution redux (sp?).
Posted by Richard W. Crews at July 26, 2007 01:48 AMAlso of importance to Veterans:
U.S. Senate unanimously passed the “Dignified Treatment of Wounded Warriors Act,” which lays out a comprehensive path to address shortfalls in the care of injured troops and veterans, and gives members of the military a 3.5 percent pay raise:
The Dole/Shalala Commission came out as well for Veterans.
The proposal to overhaul the disability system would end the current "confusing" structure in which the military services and VA issue parallel and often conflicting disability ratings...
In another article:
Bush also praised Bob Woodruff of ABC News, who was nearly killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq last year. "We're glad you're with us, Bob," Bush said. "Congratulations on the will to recover." When Woodruff asked Bush whether the government was moving fast enough to help families, the president declined to answer.
White House press secretary Tony Snow said that Bush would not be acting immediately on any of the recommendations.
bu$h sure can use those photo ops with wounded soldiers though. Just don't ask him to sign any commitments to make sure the Veteran is taken care of.

Fingers crossed on this one.
Posted by Christopher at July 26, 2007 04:29 AMSpecter going to open an investigation? Does he think he is still the chair?
Specter is and has been such a shameless whore for the Bush/Cheney Junta that I wonder why anyone would listen to anything he has to say.
Posted by James E. Powell at July 26, 2007 05:25 AMSo what's this court justice investigation going to result in? "Gee, they misled us?" We can see that already.
A review could put "judges on notice that they can't come in front of the Judiciary Committee, say one thing and leave one impression, and then go out and do another," she added. She being Dianne Feinstein
"On notice"? Harsh words but like a DukeU law prof said, "There is nothing you can do about it now; they are there for life." So this investigation is going to show the senators how to root out nominees' true intentions? From Repugs? HAAHHAAAA, it'll never happen.
ha-ha, Specter gets more attention for actually doing nothing than any politician I've ever seen.
Where are we at on the issue of the RNC allowing "hackers" to simply add made up electronic votes for Bushco to its Ohio "Sec of State" website?
If Bushco stole the 2004 election, then the biggest fruits of the crime are "Justices" Roberts and Alito. Those two will be frustrating all progressive efforts for change for decades to come and they would not be on the Court but for the Ohio fraud.
Posted by euzoius at July 26, 2007 05:42 AMOverheard on motel TV, CNN: Ooooh, Bush's numbers are as bad as Truman's! But all pols want to be like Truman! Thus the spin from neo-con newsdummies. Can anyone name any pol today who styles himself after Truman? A bucket of blood so evil--he didn't have to drop the bomb on Japan to end WW2. He was as sadistic as the two Joy Boys we have now, Bush and Cheney.
Posted by Mal Feasance at July 26, 2007 06:16 AMToo bad Specter didn't do anything about the justices when he had a chance, ya know, like at the confirmation hearings...When lots of people said they are not trustworthy.
It's really very simple: If Bush appoints them, they are lying, useless hacks.
See, how hard is that?
ps, can the justices be impeached?
Posted by pwapvt at July 26, 2007 06:37 AMSeven of Six, I heard that on NPR yesterday. Are there any Veterans left that don't hate this man?

Richard W. Crews, at this point-in-time that may be a good suggestion, although in some cases, Bush didn't breach the Constitution, he simply ignored it.
Posted by Judith at July 26, 2007 06:48 AM"Specter, who championed their confirmation, said Tuesday he will personally re-examine the testimony to see if their actions in court match what they told the Senate."
Oh, that's comforting. I wonder if Specter understands he has no credibility left?

bagley?
Now that we know that there were serious illegalities committed under the secret spying on American program, Pelosi and Reid should start pressing for a prosecution of the persons responsible for the spying and start pressing the Justice Department to enforce the law. A special prosecutor should be appointed. Also, a law should be passed that lets prosecutions proceed against the State Secret defense when illegality is involved.

Spector is doing his job of Distracter with aplomb and skill, the perfect shill.

I think everyone has slightly misconstrued this. He is simply trying to pick them up, if you know what I mean.
Posted by tempus at July 26, 2007 07:41 AMI read something a few days ago about the ability to remotely turn on cell phones so that they are able to listen in on conversations nearby - has anyone else heard about that? In normal times I would consider this an urban myth but these aren't normal times. I hope someone asks Alberto about this. Not that he would answer, of course, but at least it would be on the table.

Seven of Six, that was a knee slapping funny.
Posted by Judith at July 26, 2007 09:37 AMFBI director appears to contradict Gonzales' testimony
Excerpt:
In response to the developments, White House Deputy Press Secretary Tony Fratto said, "Every day congressional Democrats prove that they're more interested in headlines than doing the business Americans want them to do. And Americans are now taking notice that this Congress, under Democratic leadership, is failing to tackle important issues."
Ummmm, who is it who keeps filibustering?
