From NBC's Mike Viqueira
A group of House Democrats will introduce a resolution calling on the Judiciary Committee to begin impeachment proceedings against Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.
Rep. Jay Inslee (D-WA) will sponsor the measure. It will be dropped in the hopper tomorrow.
It's too early to say whether it will actually get anywhere.
Here's the text of resolution...
RESOLUTION
Directing the Committee on the Judiciary to investigate whether Alberto R. Gonzales, Attorney General of the United States, should be impeached for high crimes and
misdemeanors.
1 Resolved, That the Committee on the Judiciary shall
2 investigate fully whether sufficient grounds exist for the
3 House of Representatives to impeach Alberto R. Gonzales,
4 Attorney General of the United States, for high crimes
5 and misdemeanors.

Posted by Judith at July 31, 2007 02:13 AMCo-sponsors of the resolution include Democratic Reps. Xavier Becerra of California, Michael Arcuri of New York, Ben Chandler of Kentucky, Dennis Moore of Kansas, Bruce Braley of Iowa and Tom Udall of New Mexico.
"It's indefensible to allow the continued violation of American privacy, and it's indefensible to treat the truth with such cavalier disregard when talking to the American people and Congress," Inslee said. "So if the president won't do his job (and fire Gonzales) we'll do ours."
Be careful Democrats. You might be accused of growing a pair.

Posted by Judith at July 31, 2007 02:37 AMYou people talk about rubber stamping with the previous Congress. Did you see the WashPost article about voting with your party? Democrats lead both list. Might as well just send a robot to Congress.

Please note the leading Republican on the House side is dead and only cast 9 votes. Vote Republican and get a more bipartisan representation. Vote Democrat and get a robot.

An excellent description of Republican Congress members.

Posted by Judith at July 31, 2007 06:06 AMWhat a meme! If you vote with your party too much, you're a rubberstamp! Never mind the details! Or the substance of the votes.
Sadly, sadly typical, petey. It shows 2 things - you buy it lock stock and barrel from the Wurlitzer and parrot it right back out again; and you also have about as much intellectual depth as a blank sheet of paper.

Posted by mparker at July 31, 2007 06:38 AMCome noon today, the WH is supposed to respond by letter to Arlen Specter and Patrick Leahy concerning the contradictory testimony of ALberto Gonzales re/ domestic surveillence programs.
Specter says the letter is to be formal and to be made public.
Forgive me, but "ha-ha".
Specter is not only a weasel, he is a spineless weasel. Here it is about 24 hrs after the NYT floats a story suggesting "it's all just a narrow legalistic misunderstanding" and we are going to get a letter for public consumption from the Oval Office and/or DOJ.
ALl in all it's just another stone in the wall.

Mary, that's pretty cool! I'm gonna sign up for my card today.
Posted by iamcoyote at July 31, 2007 08:10 AMRegarding Specter and the "newly" revealed data mining scam which, the WH and Specter claim, will prove Gonzo didn't lie after all....All it proves is that Bush/Cheney are up to their necks in illegal, secret evesdropping and that Gonzo got caught trying to be cute by twos. The real story here is that none of this, NONE of this would have been known if the GOP still had control of the Congress. Clearly, that is what Rove/Bush/Cheney were banking on....surprise surprise. Now listen to their indignant howls!
