I agree that defeating this bill should be political suicide for the GOPers who oppose it. But when the Murdoch Media get hold of it, the headlines will read "Dem Congress fails to insure kids". We'll see how many GOPers lose their jobs.
Posted by T2 at August 3, 2007 09:51 AMWhat the hell happened in the House last night?? I'm hearing Republicans saying the dems reversed a vote after it was over. On top of that, they're saying the vote was about raising taxes on health insurance and using the tax money to provide health care for illegal immigrants (is this part of the talking points against SCHIP?) What's the story?
Posted by CG at August 3, 2007 10:02 AMRight on, T2, the GOoPs can survive absolutely anything because of 24/7 GOP TV and coast to coast Conservative Talk Radio, which is all their retards back home "consume".
The whole country could implode under a GOoPer president and the red state retards won't have heard a thing about it.
Without accurate information presented to literate citizens, democracy can't exist. That's why it doesn't anymore.
Posted by euzoius at August 3, 2007 11:10 AM31 GOoP "senators" can vote against this children's health care program with complete impunity, while we literally pour $12 billion a month down the Iraq Rathole.
And they know that not a thing in the world will happen to them as a result. In fact, they'll be praised to the heavens by their drooling retard supporters back home in Doofusville, USA. "Duh, it was a socialistically-like boondoggle! Rush said so!! Go USA!!"
Posted by euzoius at August 3, 2007 11:18 AMFrightening true story about red staters getting their news exclusively from Rush: talking to members of my very Republican family (Tennesseans) the other day, I was astonished to find out NONE of them knew what a Prius was! They're reasonably intelligent, all college grads and while they'd sort of heard of hybrid cars (seeing them way in the future like space ships) they were so unaware of the Prius, one of them asked me to spell the name. We can't change their minds because they don't know the facts and sadly, no matter how often we try to impart them, I think they never will. They pat me on the head, call me "the family liberal" and continue swallowing the kool-aid.
Posted by dalloway at August 3, 2007 01:10 PMAnother 2 billion in earmarks here. Great reform Democrats.
CQ, when the vote closed the talley was 215 to 213, meaning the GOP side prevailed. Numbers on the board kept changing after the vote was closed. They kept waiting to see who prevailed and they didn't post the vote talley until well passed 1 AM. When they posted it, it was 216 to 212, meaning the Dem side prevailed. I believe C-Span has the video. There's a claim that the board malfunctioned. And it seems today they've gone back to paper ballots circa 1938.
The GOP in the House was very upset to be polite.
Posted by peter at August 3, 2007 01:42 PMI'm all in favor of medicare for all and if you have to start the process by covering kids and old people first, then I'm okay with that too. But why fund it with tobacco taxes? What does that say to kids? You can have healthcare as long as enough Americans continue to pollute their lungs. Sort of like Californians approving a lottery because a small portion of it would supplement school budgets. Ah, yes, the children of America are so precious to us that they can have healthcare and education as long adults continue to gamble and smoke. Is this any way to run a country?
