Time for term limits.

Posted by Julie at August 6, 2007 12:23 PM

Thank goodness none of mine are in there. I was against Casey in PA from the start because he was anti-choice, but nooooo, he was more "electable" than Pennachio. Bastards. Anyone see the short video of Darcy Burner at Eschaton? She's looking good right now.

Everyone of the 'Gang of 14' Dems are on the list, except Byrd. Well, we all know Lieberloser has a new home.

Joe Lieberman, Connecticut (re-elected as an Independent)
Robert Byrd, West Virginia
Ben Nelson, Nebraska
Mary Landrieu, Louisiana
Daniel Inouye, Hawaii
Mark Pryor, Arkansas
Ken Salazar, Colorado

what on earth would term limits do? What's the guarantee that the next "freshman" won't be just as corrupt? The only thing we can do is to target each and every one of them at the nexgt available primary and try to run an actual progressive dem against them. Every. Time.

You'd rather have Santorum still in there?

That was me coyote. This damn thing won't keep me signed in these days.

Bush continues to test the limits of his powers.
Again, he has pushed and found no limit.

The Congress seems impotent to restrain the unitary executive.

He will continue to test. I can think of no other lame duck president in our history who was so intent on implementing a program to consolidate his power during the last two years of his term.

Will he learn he has no limit to his term?

Right now, I can predict with almost 95% certainty that Leonard Boswell will not have a primary challenger in the next election. The state party is too enthralled to the powers that be. This will be election number 6 and his 10th year in office.

The worst part is that Boz represents the Democratic-leaning Des Moines district, lumped in with a handful of semi-rural counties. There's absolutely no reason a more liberal or moderate (instead of right-wing) candidate could run for that seat.

Someone trying to tell you sumpin? *smirk*

Seriously, though, was Pennachio (sp?) all that unelectable? The last I saw, his numbers were going up - but Atrios and Kos put their weight, and people on the ground in favor of Casey, who they, and we all, knew was anti-choice and moderate to conservative Dem. These are the choices that had to be made back then, and now we're finding out the consequences of those choices, aren't we?

Yup.

You are a cruel one.

One more vote screen: who among the Senators listed voted for cloture on Alito's nomination? One of these is Florida's Bill Nelson. Why he pretends to be a Democrat sometimes I don't know, but he had no primary challenger last year, so he's in until 2012.

Posted by Greg in FL at August 6, 2007 02:32 PM

You are a cruel one.

Mwahahahaha! Uh huh. So they tell me.

idio, and there's the trouble. Howcum we can't find primary challengers for these dems? It's been a long time since my last physics class, but maybe it has a lot to do with inertia.

Posted by iamcoyote at August 6, 2007 02:42 PM

I guess we'd have to also rule out any chance of impeaching Gonzales. I mean I betchya it's most likely, they just handed over the congressional nod of approval to this lying scumbag to do whatever it was that most likely was the reason he was sent by Big Dick and Addington to an incapacitated Ashcroft's hopsital bed in order to pry a signature from him after the acting AG Comey refused citing OLC guidance.

So imo, it really doesn't matter if it was a "program" or part of a program, or "other intelligence activities" at this point. Congress just said it was legal for the Cheney Adminsitration with oversight from Gonzo to do it no matter what the heck he's calling it these days.

Sigh......

Posted by emal at August 6, 2007 02:51 PM

There is always the hope that Cheney will just keel over and die one of these days, and probably from the heat. How ironic!

Posted by tempus at August 6, 2007 03:03 PM

From what I've seen, Bush does not abide by laws anyway. As long as he is not punished for his actions, why should he stop. Giving him the full go ahead on domestic spying and whatever else he wants to do simply saves him from issueing a Signing Statement or just ignoring the law.

The really sick part is that lame duck bu$h/"shooter" cheney, still dictate too congress. In essence, they are the legislative branch, along with the abusing executive branch!

Posted by Seven of Six at August 6, 2007 03:48 PM

utterly spineless
it's really time for another american revolution to get rid of all the repukelicans and the demoRatic enablers.
yeah take it to the courts, as if they are going to go with the constitution and protect the rights of the people! please....

You look at that list of Democrats, and for the most part, you see cowards hiding behind curtains. The Red State Curtain, the Tough on Terrorism Curtain, the I'm So God Damned Stupid It Makes Your Head Hurt Curtain (Landrieu and some others), the Scratch My Back Uncle Ted Curtain, and so on.

Louisiana does not need that inbred dumbshit Landrieu, she keeps voting with the guy that has the White House Toilets piped directly to New Orleans, so what good does she do to be in the Dems caucus. And what good is Mark Pryor, a boot licking lackey to the DLC Clinton's?

And Feinstein, I sent her a note the other day. I called her a coward, I told her she makes me want to throw up when I think about her representing me in Congress, and I cursed her for being a coward. I don't expect a response.

The thing to do, something many have said, is to get better Democrats. This is a 3 part process, at least. First we get back control of Congress. Then we purge the losers, then we purge the weak.

Lord knows how long that's going to take.

Posted by Duckman GR at August 6, 2007 04:17 PM

I guess Schumer was right. Democrats just are too easily "duped". You people knowingly supported Webb all the time knowing he was only against the way the president was managing the war. Just about everything else, he still was a Republican.

Nobody has an answer for Mikulski and Carper yet. Why are those Reps. from 'blue' Minnesota, Illinois and New York on this list?

Throwing Landrieu and Pryor to the curb. That's okay we'll take Landrieu's seat, the state's turning Republican anyhow.

"And as Meteor Blades at DailyKos noted Saturday night, a large number of these "'Democrats' are Blue Dog Democrats...."

But...but..wait! I thought the mandate given to the Democrats in the last election -- winning the House and the Senate -- was supposed to reflect the will of the voting public for the "progressive policies" detailed in the Protocols of the DailyKos: what are these "Blue Dog Democrats?"

Traitors, I tell you! Democrats in name only!

Hang them! How dare they interfere in the plans that have been laid to lose the war-on-terror, humiliate the United States, and elevate Hugo Chavez to Sainthood in the Church-of-Global-Warming.

I bet'cha that Karl Rove is behind this.....

Posted by And Bagley Was A Friend Of Mine at August 6, 2007 05:02 PM

Lord knows how long that's going to take.

A helluva long time, if we go by the past - the GOP spends a couple terms destroying the economy and the government, building up debt, then the Dems come in and fix everything. Then the resulting years of peace and prosperity give the masses the luxury of worrying about gays and abortion, and viola, another wingnut gets in and the process starts again! Human nature, once survival needs are taken care of, luxuries like silly ass social issues take over.

I have been severely disappointed by our Representatives in Washington, tripping over themselves to invest "Gonzo" with the authority to order wiretaps against Americans. It seems to me he's should be defending himself against impeachment, not high-fiving everyone in "the Rove shop". It seems, Dems and Reps alike, that they ALL represent the incumbent party rather than that sorry bunch of losers. What are they called? Oh yeah! We the PEOPLE!

Well, I believe there is a reasonable suggestion in a new dKos diary and I would like to share it with all of you.

I'm almost in the mood to contribute to such a project. Unfortunately, I imagine the 3rd & 1/2 estate would be all over it, which wouldn't be bad if they were capable of actually providing
context, history or facts, (or even, dare I mention it's name, THE truth?) but sadly, that's just not the case. Of course, you try to save the country with the "press" corpse you have, not the one you can easily remember if you're older than 30.

One commenter suggested a case of Depends for all our doughty liberal warriors. That could save a lot on dry cleaning bills, since the knee jerk Democrat (sic) reaction to pressure from Cheney et al is to roll over and pee copiously on their bellies. If anyone wanted to start a campaign to actually deliver such sentiments from the netroots to Congressional members, I'm in for a hundred. A sense of shame seems to be completely removed from anyone who's been sucked into the apparently Damned halls of Congress.

We're FAST approaching the time for torches and pitchforks. Dem leaders are getting downright weird. Perhaps we should have the following written in the sky over Capitol Hill.

I, Loyal Citizen of the Republic, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.

Let's make sure we don't forget the Senate Democratic Sellouts too....with regards to the Bankruptcy Bill....one Hillary Rodham Clinton (electable!!!!!!) failed to appear to cast her vote. Gee, I wonder how she would have voted...DLC and all...

Oh well, so long as Corporations are allowed to avoid their pension obligations and labor contracts by using new tricks to turn real profits into net losses, I suppose America is 'better off', why should our fathers and grandfathers stop working or have healthcare? I mean, 30 years on the job and all, but really, what have they done for the company LATELY?

...and speaking of healthcare, why shouldn't grandma get a second job to pay for that hip replacement surgery, instead of burdening the rest of society by declaring bankruptcy? And you know, just because that 22 year old couple didn't realize they couldn't really afford that $300,000 750 Square-Foot apartment-turned-condo with the 3-year interest-only, zero-down mortgage doesn't mean they shouldn't have to PAY IT ALL BACK at default rates working at the campus bookstore for the new minimum wage (thanks Dems!), $5.15/hr.
