Well, will Biden accept Secretar of Defense? I had hopes for him in one of those 2 spots.
Posted by Melanie at August 10, 2007 02:43 PM"Untalented phony" is an adjective too far.
Steve, I read all of Scully's takedown and while it is clear that Gerson is a phony, there's nothing in the piece to support the idea that he is "untalented."
In fact, in several places, Scully comments positively on Gerson's abilities as a speech writer. That's what makes the "phony" part so ironic.
Posted by Nash at August 10, 2007 02:44 PMWell, as much as I dislike Hillary, I have to admit she sure slapped the inquisitor around a bit. I love the part where she suggest that the person may want to educate himself on the subject.
Posted by Judith at August 10, 2007 03:53 PMRudy, Rudy, Rudy, you can't lie with thousands of witnesses. Your lies have to be more concealed, more devious. Check in with Karl. He gives lying 101 lessons.
The best thing that could happen would be for Rudy to get the GOP nomination. The Democratic candidate could take the campaign season off and go on a cruise.
Posted by Judith at August 10, 2007 04:20 PMOT, but we had a brief discussion about this very subject.
"Pastor to Power: Billy Graham and the Presidents"
The Rev. Billy Graham's ties to 11 U.S. presidents; the current president, all living former presidents and four first ladies discuss their relationships with the evangelist; Graham shares his thoughts on the leaders he has counseled.
20/20 9:00 tonight
Also, Bill Moyer's Journal on "Impeachment" tonight.
Posted by Judith at August 10, 2007 05:12 PMThe irony concerning Clinton's statement is that she tells the journalist that Medicare is a form of socialized medicine, which she defends, while being adamantly opposed to the idea of having the government pay for the health care of its citizens though she is not shy from lining her pockets from the contributions given to her by the insurance companies. The most progressive candidate among those running is Dennis Kucinich, who is the only one advocating universal single payer health care, for example, and yet liberal sites seemingly will go to great lengths to distance themselves from being seen in supporting Kucinich.
Posted by Erroll at August 10, 2007 06:59 PMAccording to a CNN poll, only one third(33%) of those polled favor and increase of the gas tax to pay for bridge inspections and repairs. Seems Congressman James Oberstar, D-Minnesota is barking up the wrong tree on this one. Maybe its because this Congressman's focus in the past:
Oberstar wrote the legislation in 1991 that first allowed Highway Trust Funds to flow to states for bike trails. Until then, the 50 states combined for the past 20 years had spent only $40 million on bike trails.
The 1991 law required each state to have a bicycle coordinator, funded from the Highway Trust Fund, to have a state bicycling plan, and would be given the authority to use abandoned railway grade beds as bicycle, pedestrian and in-line skating trails.
In the next six years, $1.3 billion was invested in bicycling facilities nationwide, Oberstar, an avid biker, said.” Source: Bemidji Pioneer, August 9, 2007
1.3 billion and this bridge's first bad survey was in 1990, before this amount was spent on bikers!
Also
The PEW poll referenced has 52% believe the military is giving a fair to greater amount accurate picture of the war and found the press as 56% as not too much/none. The people believe or have confidence in our military more than the press.
More from PEW:
Dislike of both major cable news networks runs notably high among Americans who count newspapers and the internet as their main sources of national and international news. One-third of people who count on the internet for most of their news express an unfavorable view of Fox, and roughly the same number (31%) feel negatively toward CNN.
84% of Democrats have a favorable opinion of network news verses 56% of Republicans.
86% of Democrats have a favorable opinion of daily newspapers verses 68% of Republicans.
79% of Democrats have a favorable opinion of national newspapers verses 41% of the Republicans.
Seems Democrats like what they read and see, could this be the bias talking to them? Seems to be. By this poll, Democrats seem to be saying network news and national newspapers are biased towards them, only the local paper seems to be more down the middle.
Posted by peter at August 10, 2007 07:39 PMI sure hope Hillary gets the Democratic nomination. That will ensure a Republican stays in the white house. LOL
Posted by Creeply at August 10, 2007 07:49 PMYay Hillary!

Posted by Michael at August 10, 2007 09:18 PMPeter, not that I don't believe you, but would you please post a link for your statistics. You seem to be the only person here who never links your facts.
