Because she is a democrat, that's why!
Posted by goose1 at August 14, 2007 12:38 PMyeah Jeff...where's the confusion? This, along with Rove's "Fatal Flaw" comment yesterday are the first shots in what will accelerate to a machine-gun fusilade by the time Hillary gets the nomination that everyone wants her to get (except lots of Dems). Once she's nominated, the GOP Controlled Media will be in full "get Hillary" mode. I wouldn't be surprised if that ugly old crow that taped Monica isn't trotted out with tons of nasty rumors to dish about Bill and Hill. Look for Vince Foster's body to be exhumed as well.

Posted by phidipides at August 14, 2007 01:07 PMBecause she claims not to be like Bush. And for a long time Democrats have believed that government records should be as open as possible and not secreted away so that we, the people, only learn the truth long after we had a chance to take corrective action.
Because we're supposed to be critical of secrecy in government regardless of party -- anything less would be hypocritical.
Posted by Marie at August 14, 2007 01:59 PMAre we gonna have Laura's "records" available?
Lets see: Chapter I - I get up, dress Georgie, eat breakfast, read child's book, eat lunch, read child's book, eat dinner with Prince Bandar, hit the hay at 9 pm with Georgie.
I would think her records would be personal and confidential, not for public viewing. She wasn't the President. She should do what the Bush Administration tells other to do in the same situation, "fuck off."
Posted by Judith at August 14, 2007 07:07 PMor she could say, "I'll show you my records, when you show me the log records of Jeffrey visiting the WH.
Posted by Judith at August 14, 2007 07:09 PMHillary should definitely respond with why she is required to release her records, when Bush and Reagan's records are off limits. Good way to shut 'em up. In fact, she should make a big issue of that in her campaign, and switch the spot light from her to what they are hiding in the records of Bush and Reagan.
Posted by Judith at August 14, 2007 07:13 PMAs much as I detest her, Hillary is the most investigated woman on the planet and I can't imagine anything in her records that if made public, would risk national security or bring down the country anymore than 7 years of George Bush has accomplished.
Frankly, I'm not interested in what she ate for breakfast in 1994 or how much weight she put on over the 1996 Christmas holidays or notes she may've kept on how she coached Bill during the Lewinshy witchhunt.
The country is going down the toilet -- I have more important things on my mind.
Posted by Christopher at August 14, 2007 07:59 PMGuess I'm a minority of one on this. You all seem to be missing the point - Hillary isn't arguing that they aren't public records (created at the expense of the taxpayer) only that they will not be released before 11/08. We're not talking about private journals or diaries that she kept herself.
Can't you people see that everytime a DEM does something that's not exactly the right thing to do, that the GOP uses that as a precedent to excuse doing something similar and sometimes more extreme. Cheney's secret energy meetings might have caused a bigger public outcry if not for the precedent of Hillary secret healthcare meetings.
If they are just boring records, release them and stop all this silly speculation that she's hiding something (she has a long history of hiding things that are minor to meaningless - it's the perception of secrecy that hurts her, not the content.
Posted by Marie at August 14, 2007 10:47 PMWho cares about her First Lady papers. Not me, let them come out whenever they're suppose to or not at all for all I care.
Posted by peter at August 14, 2007 11:07 PMAnother silly issue.

I don't get it. Is this directed at Jeff, the author of the post?

MaskedVigilante, no, Jeff Gannon the prostitute dude who visited someone in the WH. Bush? Rove?

Bingo! As well as 24/7 on Fox if Murdoch decides that Hillary isn't his "girl." And wherever Fox goes, CBS, NBC, ABC and PBS are soon to follow. Hillary, once again, wants to have it two ways: work experience credit as First Lady as a qualification for POTUS without any documentation that that experience has any relevance to being POTUS. Sorry, organizing Easter Egg Roll on the WH lawn doesn't cut it. If she weren't running for POTUS this would not be an issue.
