I am a Democrat I would rather see Gore or anyone else besides hillary - Country needs a real change - but at this point in time I would vote for Ronald Mcdonald dressed in a prison suit as long as he isn't a Republican !!!!!
Posted by paul at August 15, 2007 09:08 AMGreat post. Yes, Hillary is the most qualified, the toughest, and the brightest. I have no doubt she can take whatever they throw at her and make the GOP look foolish at the same time. She's a machine and nothing's gonna stop her.
And unless the GOP wises up and starts promoting Ron Paul to the people, they've got nothing but nitwits and carnies to put up against her.
It's gonna be a great ride.
PS: I resent the "unelectable" adjective for Kucinich. We all know it's true, but I still don't like reading it. 8)
Posted by MaskedVigilante at August 15, 2007 09:12 AMI think Gore still might get in the race at least I am hoping so. But I would vote for Hilary rather than a Rethug......
Posted by Gene at August 15, 2007 09:25 AMHillary appears to be heading for the nomination, and although I'm an Edwards supporter, I feel strongly that Democrats do not bash Hillary, but do constructive criticism when necessary. I also defend her with known facts when she is being smeared. Most of all Democrats need to be united behind Democratic candidates to ensure their election. If in the next election, the government ends up with a solid Democratic congress (Senate and House) plus the executive, we the people must hold those in government accountable to ensure the Democrats don't abuse their power like the Republicans did during the first six years of the Bush administration. Having all the powers can be dangerous to our democracy. We must be always vigilant.
Posted by Prabhata at August 15, 2007 09:31 AMHillary will lose to the GOP. She will not win rural votes. Big deal, you say? Well, how'd those last two elections work out for you.
Democrats, however, seem hellbent on nominating the woman whose last name is Clinton, so I'll just sit back and watch with morose amusement when she "shockingly!" loses to the inevitably more "likable" GOP hack.
Posted by God Of War at August 15, 2007 09:44 AMWhile Hillary is not necessarily my candidate, I am guardedly optimistic that she will be electable, current high disapproval ratings to the contrary notwithstanding. This woman (I'm wont to say "Girl") has for nearly 15 years taken everything the right wing smear machine has thrown at her, and has never even broke stride. In fact, I think there is a strong possibility of a backlash against those who will demean her, particularly as Hillary continues to deliver her message and the fence-sitters come to realize the extent to which the right wing message (about Hillary and about everything else) they have been and are being fed is nothing more than a pack of lies.
Posted by redstater at August 15, 2007 09:50 AMNo matter which candidate we choose the Republican slime machine will try to destroy them. Republicans say Hillary is the easiest candidate to beat. Why then have they started their vitriol this early? I think they are very nervous that she and Bill can actually fix this mess and they would have to say goodbye forever to their much vaunted dynasty. Hillary is ready for anything. She has been down this road before. She is my candidate because I feel comfortable with her and more than that she is comfortable in her own skin. I say to the Repugs WE ARE READY--BRING IT ON. We have had 6-1/2 years of gloom and doom. We are sick of it. I think Morning in America beats Midnight in Hell any day.
Posted by s hall at August 15, 2007 09:51 AMWatching CNN yesterday I noticed a promotion for Condeleeza Rice. They were going on and on about her low negatives are and the fact that she is the most powerful woman in Washington. Could they have another rabbit up their sleeves? Cheney resigns and Bush makes Condi VP. She is Black and a Woman and you know how they always like to one up us Dems.
Posted by s hall at August 15, 2007 09:57 AMsome recent polling indicate that the several reliably GOP voter blocs no longer can be counted on voting GOP, due to Bush and the general foulness of today's GOP. That could change of course and I, for one, think that Hillary may be the element of that change. The result being either these disenchanted GOPers don't vote at all or they are forced back into the fold, voting for someone they really don't want. My aversion to a Hillary candidacy, despite the fact it seems to be a foregone conclusion absent a Gore entry, it that she has two major strikes against her, three if you count the GOP Media. One, lots of those on the right really hate Bill Clinton and two, she is female.Pick either one of these and you'll see the "Fatal Flaw" Rove was talking about. At this point in time, I'm afraid we are rolling the dice with Hillary and risking a highly unstable Giuliani presidency. That was the point I made when Steve Soto endorsed the Hill. I will vote Democratic. And maybe Hillary will win and make history. We will be in for a huge problem if she does not. Having said that, I've never thought Obama was electable, or even nominatable. Edwards, no. So, absent Gore, looks like we'll be rolling the dice and hoping for sevens. I don't like gambling with our future, do you?
Posted by T2 at August 15, 2007 09:57 AMHave you all seen the atrocious ad that team Hil is running in Iowa? You know, the "you're not invisible" ad? Yeah Hil, keep repeating "you're invisible" to morose music. That'll amp up the Morning in America!
Keerist, talk about tone deaf. Of course, what more would one expect from a campaign that chooses a rancid Celine Dion song as it's official tune.
Tone. Fucking. Deaf.
If that's a harbinger of what's to come, we are truly fucked.
Posted by God Of War at August 15, 2007 09:59 AMIs she electable?
Sadly, Hillary will be elected barring Gore stepping into the race, then it's back to the U.S. senate for the DLC's queen.
All you have to do is watch Wall Street to see who is viable.
Hillary and Wall Street are like conjoined twins.
Business likes her hawkishness and her GOP-lite values much more than they like the woefully flawed and unqualified Guiliani or that actor oddity from Law and Order.
Posted by Christopher at August 15, 2007 10:01 AMHave you all seen the atrocious ad that team Hil is running in Iowa?
Ain't that something? The first few seconds of the ad makes you think she is saying that to HER, as president, the little people will be invisible. And we know from her votes in Congress that the little people really are invisible to her.
Hill will be the best girl the MSM will let you vote for. Just remember that being the first woman at something in the United States does not mean the best woman...cough, cough...Princess Sparkle Pelosi, anyone?
Posted by phidipides at August 15, 2007 11:30 AMYet many have inexplicably fallen under Hillary's spell.
Hillary is the face of DLC: she's a Hawk and AIPAC adores her.
If you liked Iraq, then get ready for more American adventurism in the Middle East. Hillary, if elected, will make Jane Harmon look like a Dove by contrast. Iran? Pakistan? Lock your doors because the U.S. military is coming for you!
Posted by Christopher at August 15, 2007 11:39 AMGod of War, if you have a better candidate in mind, I'd love to hear who it is. I'd love to hear that from ANY of you nay-sayers, actually.
We all know she's gonna get the nomination. It's time to saddle up or go ride with the other party.
And please stop with the Gore stuff. All the wishes and hopes and pixie dust in the world aren't gonna get that guy in the race, nor would he win it if he entered.
She's gonna run against Rudy 9/11 and she's gonna pants that trannie liar.
Posted by MaskedVigilante at August 15, 2007 11:47 AMI just don't want to see fellow Democrats beating her up.
Posted by Richard W. Crews at August 15, 2007 12:13 PMI personally didn't care much for Hillary's ad but it certainly sent the Bush White House into fits. Of course, this will work in her favor since now Bush has justified her statements by trying to defend himself. It seems that little Bush fell right into the trap that Hillary set.
Posted by Ga6thDem at August 15, 2007 12:18 PMI just don't want to see fellow Democrats beating her up.
I don't either, and I'm seeing a lot of that going on here. Love her or hate her, but she's going to get the nomination.
Posted by MaskedVigilante at August 15, 2007 12:36 PMAs usual, GoW picks up on my thoughts telepathically. (I'd really like to meet you sometime.)
I'd only add this - and it's from the coverage I'm reading over the campaign events in Iowa she's been using to defend the ad. Clinton had a nice trap sprung; the ad was tone deaf to many voters, but pitched to elicit the response it got from the administration. The White House just went on the defensive against a primary campaign advertisement attacking them. & In Clinton's campaign headquarters, everyone cheered! Mission accomplished - news cycle dominated, portraying an out-of-touch administration (not a hard feat, I admit) and Sen. Clinton looking bold and like someone who will change the status quo in the news reports.
Underneath everyone's carefully worded statements of 'How Dare They!' and follow up defenses, there's also an unwritten acknowledgment: The White House has basically announced that Sen. Clinton is their chosen Democratic challenger.
Read into that what you will.

I guess we should goose-step when her name is mentioned and speak in hushed reverential tones. Then we can all toss a snappy right-arm-at-45-degrees salute. It all reminds me of something...why, it's just like the republi-cons did for Busch! I'll do better next time.
Next time: Yes, considering all other candidates, Hillary is the candidate for me. You see, I can easily ignore her trying to give healthcare to a few corporate HMOs in 93, and now her complete failure to enunciate a plan any diffrent from a republi-con on healthcare. Yes, I like her tough talk of war and death for the little brown people in the world, and her support of massive financial corporations in not standing against bancruptcy reform. Her war votes, her vote for dismantling the Constitution with the Patriot Act. All of these things lead me to think we must all support her without dissension as the next President of these United States. Hillary Uber Alles!!
Posted by phidipides at August 15, 2007 02:58 PMHuckabee can (and probably would) beat her. In fact, he'll be a dangerous opponent regardless of who the dems nominate...unless Gore gets in.
Take a look at the credentials of the Republics vying for the nomination and the credentials of Senator Clinton. And she is endlessly portrayed as the unelectable? Get real.
Posted by Sally at August 16, 2007 05:51 AMWhat makes anyone think that those who are bashing Hillary are true Democrats? Some are Republican attack dogs why some are simply misguided.
