Comments: Republican Journey to a Dark, Barren Place

Things must be getting desperate, you're resorting to cheer leading. Seems the state of Democrats isn't looking so well as they return to Congress. One of the original no voters from a 'blue' state just turned and joined this "weakened" president to support staying in Iraq. That's a signal folks to more disappointment coming from your representatives in Congress. The "wait until September" or "we'll fix it after the report" crowd knows they aren't going to deliver and dissatisfaction will be the conservative reaction from their voters. Paradox here is trying to preempt that with this piece. He's placing a lot of trust in two DLCers from Democracy Corp. And aren't they both on HC's payroll.

Yeah, he's got his pom poms out here and her's giving a yell.

poor Peter, you pants-pissing right-wing coward, your precious GOP is circling the toilet bowl like a turd

The American people have already seen 6 years of ReThug corruption, incompetence, and lust for power, and 2008 looks like it is going to be quite the blowout. At least Rove was smart enough to leave town before the GOP implodes.

You placed party about country, and America will not forgive you for that.

America doesn't forgive dead sons and daughters for lies.

These thieving evil Republicans thought they got away with it in 2004. They were wrong.

Peter, liebchen, kannst du lange warten auf Armeeabteilung Steiner.

"There's much "bright" about Hillary.
She does continue the Bush-Clinton-Clinton-Bush-Bush-Clinton, dynasty, if you're a fan of dynasty.
Hillary did vote for the Iraq war.
Hillary did vote for the USA Patriot Act.
Hillary did vote for the reauthorization of the USA Patriot Act.
Hillary did oppose the international treaty to ban land mines.
Hillary did side with Israel when they invaded Lebanon, leading to the deaths of 1,000 Lebanese children.
Hillary did oppose the UN Security Council resolutions challenging Pakistan, Israel and India’s nuclear weapons programs.
Hillary did say she opposes gay marriage equity.
Hillary did accept a $25,000 donation from News Corp and she did refuse to return it.

Yep, Hillary is a journey to the bright side!

Yeah, there's so much reward, for being a Democrat today, to look forward to. Gay Veteran is going to vote for someone who opposes gay marriage. That will win it for your cause. She will vote more funding for the war next month, when she returns to her day job. When the FISA bill comes up again, she will vote the expansion permanent. She's going to want these tools if she's in the WH. She will maintain the forces in Iraq thru her administration. Yeah let's get it up for HC.

Poor old Peter, babbling on about Army Group Steiner.....

That's one precedent for the modern Republicans, anyway. Another "leader" who took everyone else on his side down with him as well.

Davis, liebchen, Ich bin ein American, kein NSDAP. Aber mehr der KOSacks und Democrats anhänger der NSDAP. Sie BEFEHLEN anderen, zu folgen.

Posted by peter at August 18, 2007 10:11 AM

And Sage, the Steiner group was a creation of Hitler in the bunker. He created this group to save Berlin. The force was all a puff of smoke. I'm not the person who brought this one up. Good old Davis up there did. Timing, Democrats always seem to have poor timing. We win in Iraq and then the election. The economy looks good and then the election. Good old Carville's, "It's the economy, stupid!". When the economy was already recovering. We'll see. I believe we'll be seeing Rudi Giuliani at the Capital Building with our President being sworn in as the next President.

The Republicans are acting out of their drive for self-preservation, but it's their long-term preservation, not the next election.

Consider. If you were a Republican, would you want to be in charge of the country when Bush/Cheney leave office? Do you want the job of cleaning this mess up?

They are sticking together now, particularly on the Iraq occupation, because they know it is going to end in disaster and they want to be poised to blame the Democrats for the disaster. And, count on this, that is exactly what they are going to do. The narrative will be "We tried to win and we would have won but the Democrats betrayed America."

It will work if they just stick together.

They know their country's history.

peter: "We win in Iraq and then the election."

Who is this "we"? You posting from Iraq? No? Still in mommy's basement? then STFU you yellow elephant

Hillary? Not my first choice, but then my cat could be a better president than the tyrannt in the White House. The difference between you and me is that you place party above country.

Equal marriage rights for Gays? It is coming. Hell, 10 years ago civil unions were unthinkable.

Too bad you and your authoritarian loving party will end up on the garbage heap of history. Enjoy.

Thanks, p - great essay.

Maha's essay is required reading for anyone trying to understand what happened with the GOP and what created the mess they are now in. I'm not sure the party can survive the total collapse of its brand.

"braying how great the Leader is and any sort of criticism is outright treachery"....
Reminded me of Lincoln throwing politicians in jail after the suspension of Habeas Corpus, because they were sympathetic with the Southern States.

Posted by Nate at August 18, 2007 11:45 AM

No surprise to me if this Administration suspends elections in 2008 because of a massive terrorist attack OR the threat of one.
It was tried by Guiliani in NYC.
In that case, I expect we'll see Peter goose stepping @ the head of the "parade".

At this point there is only one person who can save the Republican Party from sweeping losses in 08. That person is Hillary Clinton. Whether the GOPer's hatred of all things Clinton will override their disenchantment with what their party has become is up in the air now. We, as a nation, need new, competent, interested and honest leadership desperately. It won't be coming from either Thompson, Romeny or Giuliani and it's clear the GOP rank and file know that. It's also clear that lots of us Dems aren't so sure about Hillary either, although it's hard to see how anyone could derail her nomination now.

Things must be getting desperate, you're resorting to cheer leading.

And this from the guy who was begging Chris Rich to join the dark side.

I quote some pf para's cheeleading: "George Bush is a heinous animal who actually will sacrifice thousands of human lives a month and the political future of his party just so he won’t be officially labeled the Loser of Iraq."

Now that's cheer I can get behind. "Rah, rah, he's lizard shit, a douche-uh bag, and a fuck! Goooouuuuuuuhhhh GOPers!"

I really am never happier than when some worthless collection of carbon molecules in the guise of a Busch supporter comes along to tell us about the joys of being a party faithful. All evidence suggests republi-cons like peter are the absolute worst thing for the American economy, foreign policy, and let's not even get to their rascism, gloating over ending their own civil rights, and the myriad of other ill things they do in and to America.

And it's obvious he only follows republi-con politics where any asinine blowhard can spout anything and still get the support of the party faithful. Otherwise he would know there are many Dems who will be challengng Blue Dog Dems this next cycle. And he takes our free expression of thought -something not allowed in his party- to mean the Dems are falling on the sword and committing sepuku. Nothing, absolutely nothing, could be less reflective of the truth. The republi-cons have ended their party as we know it, and we're just trying to sort out what America needs to save it from the depredation of the republi-cons.

It's called cognition, peter, the acts and processes associated with the thought process. You guys should give it a try. It's tougher than mouthing someone else's thoughts from your party, but you might grow accustomed to it if you gave it a try.
