Dear Paradox:
How very kind and good and profound of you. A sweet memento that captures Steve very well. I miss him too. I often think how he would be shredding Rudy G's sick campaign and making us laugh out here in TV nation. Hope you will continue that fight.
Richard.
Posted by RKimble at August 18, 2007 03:27 PMIt's so true how much his voice is missed. Thanks for the reminder (and the recipe).
Posted by kerril at August 18, 2007 03:33 PMI can see Steve's gentle soul smiling and appreciating that lovely dinner.

You got me, paradox, right where it still hurts.

...thanks, Paradox.
Dang I miss Steve like a front tooth. He's not gone as long as we keep alive in our hearts his anger and incisiveness, and further it in whatever small ways we can.
And the quirky passionate love of food, mentoring the youngsters in our lives, everything. Thanks for this post paradox, and all your writing.
Posted by Sharkbabe at August 18, 2007 04:59 PM...you’re gone...Most days it’s still pretty fucked up...miss you. We still fight back...glad you’re in a good place.
Yeah. Still wonder "What would Gilliard say about this?" so often.
This is perfect, paradox.
Posted by clio at August 18, 2007 05:07 PMMmmmmmmmm, yum!! Thanks for the recipe.
I just picked my late supper, green beans from plants the bunnies didn't eat. Got enough for a meal, to be fried with bacon and onions. Coons got two thirds of my sweetcorn, but the rest is in the freezer.
I just started gardening in earnest this year, although I had some primitive experience in the dim past. Dang, I will never, ever, ever, ever plant squash close to my tomatoes again. Semi-bush, my ass.
Posted by Julie at August 18, 2007 05:36 PMFelt good to remember Steve through your post. I'm thinkin this Thanksgiving is going to have a few rough spots without Steve.
If you get a chance and you haven't found it yet, the Penzey's site and certainly their catalog are great.
THe owner, Bill, travels the world looking for those just right spices in little villages and sprinkles the pages of the catalog with stories of the people he meets along the way.

yeah, Steve was the best!
Amazing how he is dead but that lying sack of shit Tony Snow is still alive. How can you have cancer and STILL lie to the country? Some would say he deserves to be eaten alive by the cancer.
Posted by Gay Veteran at August 18, 2007 08:19 PMRight on paradox!
"And fuck the fucking yankees!!!!"
nice
Posted by ecthompson at August 18, 2007 11:05 PMLike you, I often think "What would Steve say about this?" I keep thinking how much material he would have to work with considering Rudy, state of the Constitution, etc. His voice is greatly missed. Does anyone know how Jen is doing?

What are you guys talking about, please???
Posted by Julie at August 19, 2007 08:20 AMparadox,
Steve's loss is still a sharp pain, like a runner's cramp. Thanks for inviting us, vicariously, to dinner with you and your bride.
Posted by Melanie at August 19, 2007 09:44 AMBrings back memories.
Posted by hell's kitchen at August 19, 2007 11:01 AMJulie, Steve Gilliard was a greatblogger who recently passed away. I wasn't too familiar with him but he wrote a wonderful
Thanksgiving post at FDL last year, and Jen was his friend who posted also, I believe.
He died?????????
No, no way.
Posted by Julie at August 19, 2007 11:25 AMHow sad.
Posted by Julie at August 19, 2007 11:28 AMParadox, tears in my eyes.
