Come on, really. How many investigations can one Government handle?
Commerce, Treasury funds helped boost GOP campaigns
Top Commerce and Treasury department officials appeared with Republican candidates and doled out millions in federal money in battleground congressional districts and states after receiving White House political briefings detailing GOP election strategy.
Political appointees in the Treasury Department received at least 10 political briefings from July 2001 to August 2006, officials familiar with the meetings said. Their counterparts at the Commerce Department received at least four briefings - all in the election years of 2002, 2004 and 2006.
The House Oversight Committee is investigating whether the White House's political briefings to at least 15 agencies, including to the Justice Department, the General Services Administration and the State Department, violated a ban on the use of government resources for campaign activities.

Rove's oft-touted "genius" is nothing more than single-minded amorality. In campaigns and in the administration, he was and is unapologetically amoral in service to his own cause or that of his client: his "genius" is that he has consistently been willing to go farther, be meaner, and invent more astonishing lies than would be done by anyone in politics with a thin remaining threads of a conscience.
Rove, to the detriment of the country (and even of the ReThugs) placed party above country, which is the very definition of SCUM.
Posted by gay veteran at August 19, 2007 06:47 AMDid anyone see Bob Schieffer's closing comments this morning on Face the Nation? He basically accused the WH of setting up the big lie when Petraus reports to the Congress (if he actually does.) Schieffer continues to be one of the few in the MSM that steps out into dangerous no man lands and speaks the truth. I am surprised he continues to be the monitor of FTN.

The report on the surge is in. Well, at least the British report. Their assessment? Military commanders tell Brown to withdraw from Iraq without delay. As the CIA cut and run from Basra, the U.S. says "the British have basically been defeated in the south". Quoting the story: A senior British commander countered, "That's to miss the point. It was never that kind of battle, in which we set out to defeat an enemy."
No doubt it's because of how swell things are going in Iraq. So swell, that the Iraqi vice-president told a group of prisoners "Those who are outside are not much better off than you. It is true that you are in prison, but at least you live in safety here, believe me you are more secure than those outside," Beyond the anal rape, being held indefinitly without charge, and not knowing who is accusing you, the Iraqi government thinks life in an Iraq prison is better than life in Iraq itself.
But could any human have forecast our failures in Iraq? Surely it would take someone of massive intellect. An intellect so vast that it begs description. Either that or a cyborg. Yes, a very smart cyborg whose cardivascular system is driven by some futurisitc device, a heart that can never stop no matter how dead the rest of the organism. A devious, evil cyborg without human conscience or emotions driven by the power of electrical devices. And could this evil purely ficticious dead cyborg exist? And if it does exist, what would it have prognisticated about our future in Iraq?
But things are going well in Iraq. The surge is working! And even though 70% of Iraqis lack clean water, and 80% don't have effective sanitation, the surge is working. And let's face it. When little kids want clean water they will do the damndest things when taunted! Sing with me! "America's jesus loves the little children"...well, some of the little children in the world.
Anyone watching the debate?
The question they just asked?
Could prayer have prevented Katrina or the bridge collapse?
WTF?

I read the transcripts. I'm liking what I'm learning about Kucinich. One of the best statements came from Gravel when Hill, Obie wan Obama, Edwards, Richardson and Dodd all said they would bailout the slime balls who created the mortgage crisis: "Just follow the money of the people on this dais and you'll see a response," Gravel said. Kucinich said: "Fuck no! Let em swing!" I believe that also.
Has anyone noticed that Cheney is an asshole? A very large one!
Posted by tempus at August 19, 2007 10:33 AMTempus, no I never noticed.
Posted by Judith at August 19, 2007 10:50 AMThe sad thing is Hillary is going to be the winner in the primaries. I will not vote for Hillary in November 2008. I will vote for a 3rd-party candidate or not vote at all. I would love to see Cindy Sheehan or Dennis Kucinich run as a 3rd-party. I would vote for them.

It's so large....I got lost in cheney's ass once!
Posted by Seven of Six at August 19, 2007 01:21 PMgay veteran - thanks Hunter nails it (although paradox's priece on his is still the best) Rove is amoral. Several years ago Soros wrote a long piece on business pointing out that it too is amoral. We should probably use amoral more often and evil less often.

I watched. Loved Gravel's line that Cheney should be committed. God that was hilarious. I love candidates that are so hopeless they can actually speak the truth. Loved Kucinich's line about praying George would call on him. I usually like George, but he spent 20 minutes asking other candidates about the "fight" between Clinton and Obama. It was just weird. And he didn't give Kucinich enough air time.
I actually got the impression that Hillary was the leader of the group. Often, when there was a general question, she answered first, and for one toward the end where George asked a yes/no question, she said something like "many of us here have views on this that can't be answered with a simple yes or no." Like she was answering for the group, but it didn't sound presumptuous. It sounded like she was the leader of them and it seemed sort of natural and they didn't seem to mind, even though some of them did answer with a yes or no.
Someone has to coach both Hillary and Obama on their faces. Hillary often has a half smile and looks like she's trying not to roll her eyes. Obama often looks stiff and in some ways holier-than-thou, like he's looking down his nose at everyone.
I kind of keep liking Joe Biden and I'm less and less impressed with Bill Richardson. He looks like a goofball.
How about a choice between Gravel and Ron Paul--that would be fun.

You're safe phid, I still wouldn't recognize you. Besides looking for my keys, I had misplaced my glasses, and I was literally shit faced!
