Hillary's rapid response ("Rove seems obsessed with me') is a good sign that she's learned from the Gore and Kerry campaigns to not leave an attack unanswered. Like last week's "Looks like I struck a nerve" retort, this is pretty decent counterpunching.
Keep it up Hill. And I just may start warming to your candidacy.
Posted by Zak44 at August 20, 2007 09:43 AMTier One/Tier Two. Great idea. We have talked about this for over four years. Isn't about time the Democrats started implementing it?

I believe I read in Time not long ago (Don't worry, I read it at the library; I wouldn't dream of subscribing) that the vehemence of attacks on Hillary has for many years puzzled the Clintons, but the odd thing is that when the bile revs up, so does her approval rating in the polls.

Posted by hancock at August 20, 2007 11:22 AMYeah, Rove sure things he is the alpha and omega, doesn't he?
Seems the GOP candidates don't want Mr. Wonderful anywhere near their campaigns.
Matt Cooper confirmed that Rove leaked Valeria Plames name to him. Although the Wilson's lost their Civil Suit, they are appealing. Maybe Matt can testify for the Wilson, and gain back some similus of respect.
Posted by Judith at August 20, 2007 11:34 AMTry "similis." Smarty pants thinks she doesn't need spell check.
Posted by Judith at August 20, 2007 11:41 AMFuck all politicians. They are all self-serving SOB's. And the last exception was several decades ago.
Posted by tempus at August 20, 2007 11:47 AMTempus, you sound like my late Father. He never trusted two groups of people, politicians and journalists. He was a very smart man.
Posted by Judith at August 20, 2007 11:55 AMAt the risk of sounding completely out-of-touch, may I ask Judith or Steve to explain the Tier One/Tier Two concept again? I'm a loyal reader of TLC, maybe I just need a reminder.
I totally agree that Rove and the White House attacking Hillary at every turn helps her greatly right now. It's the best campaign boost she could possibly hope for.
Posted by Jeff Dinelli at August 20, 2007 12:28 PMWell, this is certainly interesting (and totally unsurprising):
"Rove might be revisiting his 2004 play book. Bush's re-election team aimed its harshest comments at Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, the eventual nominee, because it wanted Bush to take on Kerry rather than Edwards, then a senator from North Carolina.
The Los Angeles Times on Sunday reported that Bush's former pollster and strategist Matthew Dowd said at a 2004 Harvard University conference that Bush's re-election team went after Kerry because they were more afraid of Edwards."

Can y'all solve the riddle?
Posted by God Of War at August 20, 2007 12:56 PMHe's been Iowa growing roots and yet he's falling in the polls. The other two have caught up with him to make Iowa a three person race. Falling behind with contributions, winding down or closing campaign offices, this guy's melting away. Can't stand the heat.
The people of NC weren't going to return him to DC. They felt he forgot who elected him, was too busy looking good and prepping for his presidential run. His eyes are always on something else, never on the business at hand.
I urge you people to get behind this guy. Soft butter, be great for the popcorn.
Posted by peter at August 20, 2007 01:36 PMJeff, here is my first post explaining the "Tier One/Tier Two" concept.
Keep in mind that I wrote this six months before the Kerry people got blindsided by the Swift Boat attacks.
I have been told by those in the campaign back then that this and other suggestions were forwarded up the line to the senior "braintrust", who immediately dismissed it as the ramblings of know-nothing bloggers.
And they then proceeded to get their balls handed to them in August.
Posted by Steve Soto at August 20, 2007 01:59 PMOK, Steve, now I remember how it works. And you're right of course, Kerry's team was worthless in this regard.
Hillary surrounds herself with excellent people, and I'm sure they know this approach will be essential for a victory. Whichever goofball they finally select should be very vulnerable to constant attacks, keeping Hillary above the fray and easily winning debates....it sure looks good on paper, as they say.
Posted by Jeff Dinelli at August 20, 2007 02:17 PMthe concern troll, peter the pants-pissing right-wing coward
Posted by gay veteran at August 20, 2007 04:39 PMWho cares what Rove says? The fact that Rove could call Hillary "fatally flawed" and people think he's really trying to help her either demonstrate how weak Rove has become or how effective a campaigner Hillary is.
Posted by Melanie at August 20, 2007 04:43 PM...er, that's Rove's third-party way of doing business as usual. He did it with Kerry -- made him the focus so that Dems rallied around Kerry and drained power away from their real fear: an Edwards candidacy. Now Rove's doing it with Hillary. Hillary isn't Rove's worst nightmare, Obama -- including his support from Obama Republicans -- is. Hence the shiny Hillary deflector.

You should see a shrink. Pathological lying might get you killed someday.
