Well, I hope the people of Mexico get more help than the victims of Katrina did.

Bush Mining Czar Ran Mines With Accident Rates Twice The US Average.

Is there any damn thing that Bush and 'his people' haven't destroyed or rendered incompetent in this Country in seven years????????

President Cheney told the GOP-led congress it was "not allowed to issue subpoenas."

Today in a press briefing, Leahy revealed that the White House had missed its 2:30 PM deadline to turn over documents to the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding legal justifications for the National Security Agency’s eavesdropping program.

Leahy said that the administration’s stonewalling amounted to “contempt of the valid order of the Congress,” and pointed out that these subpoenas were passed by broad bipartisan votes. In fact, the Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by Specter also attempted to ask questions about the program’s legal justifications. But Vice President Cheney personally barred him from issuing subpoenas. (It seems that Cheney told the GOP that they were not allowed to issue subpoenas, which may explain some of the actions of GOP members).

Incidentally, in the administration’s response today, they claimed the Office of the Vice President is not part of the Executive Office of the President. So it’s some kind of fourth branch of government.

Well, that’s wrong. Both the United States Code says it is part of the president — oh, incidentally, at least this morning, as I left Vermont, I checked the White House Web site. And even their own Web site, this morning, at least, says that the Executive Office — that the vice president is part of the Executive Office of the President.

QUESTION: What is your next step to ensure this? What’s your next step?

Leahy, "I prefer cooperation to contempt. Right now, there’s no question that they are in contempt of the valid order of the Congress"

COOPERATION!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't take it anymore.

Leahy said his committee had waited long enough.
"It has been almost two months since service of the subpoenas, three weeks since the time they asked for additional time. And still, we have nothing at all," Leahy said.

You spineless f*ck, and you'll get nothing.

A question:

Does anyone here eat frozen egg rolls?

Posted by idiosynchronic at August 21, 2007 06:55 AM

Well, I hope the people of Mexico get more help than the victims of Katrina did.

We got nailed with the remnants of Erin. No doubt you've seen the film of the helicopter rescue where the people kept falling off of the skid back into the water.

An unanswered question is where was the National Guard? They had no presence and were not seen in any of the devastated areas. Simply unavailable for some reason...

Mexico will do fine. They'll mobilize their military, and people will work together. Thank god it's not going to hit America. We're less prepared than when Katrina hit. It's the great American republi-con adventure: You must take care of yourself during emergencies because we have to take care of hedge fund managers.

You spineless f*ck, and you'll get nothing.

The political Kabuki is getting pretty old. It's time for these Dems to shit or get off the pot.

Posted by phidpides at August 21, 2007 06:57 AM

Phidipides, they are not getting "off the pot." This Administration is in contempt of the law, and Leahy, wringing his little old lady hands, wants, hopes, desires, prays for, cooperation. It is just beyond words anymore.

Posted by Judith at August 21, 2007 07:14 AM

Idio, frozen egg rolls?

Posted by Judith at August 21, 2007 07:16 AM

Leahy, "I prefer cooperation to contempt. Right now, there’s no question that they are in contempt of the valid order of the Congress"

Clueless Leahy, what you prefer, and what the American people want, means not one whit to CheneyCo. When he said, "go fuck yourself," he wasn't being rhetorical. Get a clue, that's what you're paid for (well, by taxpayers, maybe your corporate donors want something else?)
And to call a presser to announce once again, "look at me, I'm still weak!" Sheesh, these people are our leaders?

Hey Mary, always good to hear from you. You are one of the best!

Idio, frozen egg rolls?

**...cringing...blinking...holding hand in front of face like like a toilet's about to splode...**

Posted by phidipides at August 21, 2007 07:33 AM

Idio, egg rolls? As in Schwan's that are contaminated?
http://www.co.boulder.co.us/health/pr/2005/02142005eggRollRecall2.htm

Sunday, Skippy broke the news that New Zealand was investigating T shirts for Gawd's sake, that are made in China and 'washed' in a formaldehyde substance to help kill bugs and stop tshirts from wrinkling. Kids in NZ are developing rashes.

Ok, China that's it, TShirts!!! And now, even wanna be China, as in eggrolls are bad, makes one wonder if the contamination has been going on at low levels for so long and now we have upswings in autism, Parkinsons....

Posted by mainsailset at August 21, 2007 07:38 AM

Yeah, why didn't that Democratic governor mobilize the guard? Texas Gov. Perry was able to get his moving. Kansas governor was able to in Greenberg. Gov. Blanco was able to get her's mobilized for Dean. Where were the Okla Natl. Guard...nowhere to be seen? Seems that governor failed to help the people in Okla. out. More Democrats unprepared to keep American's safe.

And Phid, they aren't all in....Iraq...over 50% of the Guard are available in Okla. for state use. So the question is valid...why didn't the GOVERNOR do something?

Texas has thousands of buses in the south Texas area just in case. Even the City of Mesquite got their act in gear a week ago. Less prepared...Texas mobilized and spent over $250,000 just for Dean. What a lame post, even for you.

"Right now, there’s no question that they are in contempt of the valid order of the Congress"

Well then, what is the problem Leahy?????? Get arrest warrants and arrest the motherf*ckers for contempt of an order.

Yeah, why didn't that Democratic governor mobilize the guard?

No one knows yet. Surrounding States had their remaining guard mobilized. Something about ours made them unavailable. The guard facilities around here are empty. No one is there. We'll know more as time moves on. What I have seen is that inmates from the private prisons and county jails are out cleaning stuff up.

And while we're on military matters:

...more than 10,000 soldiers have deserted since the Iraq war began four years ago.

"There's a sort of revolution taking place in the streets," Mejia said. "It's not being reported by the mainstream media, but we in the antiwar movement know what's going on. There is a rebellion going on in the ranks of the military that is not being reported."

Kinda like trowing a war and no one bothers to attend...like republi-con straw polls.

Posted by phidipides at August 21, 2007 07:58 AM

Hey Peter, do you support being in contempt of the law?

Posted by Judith at August 21, 2007 08:01 AM

Texas has thousands of buses in the south Texas area just in case. Even the City of Mesquite got their act in gear a week ago.

I am talking about a post disaster mobilization. You might have noticed we aren't an ocean front State...at least not yet. Keep the global heat on and we just may become one. Rain was forecast, nothing more. You don't mobilize for rain unless hedge fund managers are private contractors are involved.

Posted by phidipides at August 21, 2007 08:18 AM

I got the impression the Oklahoma National Guard was completing intense training in preparation for deployment to Iraq. There was a story about it recently in the alternative OKC paper. Maybe that's why they weren't called out?

Posted by Cosrai at August 21, 2007 08:22 AM

Seperation of powers, Judith, Congress is going to go to Justice and get warrants? Get your warrants. Your contempt for all things sure is showing. And didn't they just approve expanded FISA rules giving the NSA rights? Seems to make the former not very relevant. This Congress has validated the earlier actions.

A lot of smoke and mirrors.

Camp Casey is empty too, kinda like throwing a peace movement and nobody shows up. Where's the reporting? Where's Cindy?

Posted by peter at August 21, 2007 08:30 AM

Seperation of powers...

You only know one branch of government peter, the executive branch.

How's that going to feel when a Democrat is in the presidency in 2009. You'll be smiling then, right, just like the Iraqi's are now.

Posted by Seven of Six at August 21, 2007 09:23 AM

Camp Casey is empty too,

I saw this a long ago on a republi-con neo-nazi blog. As usual, you are not only unoriginal, you simply spout neo-nazi-republi-con nonsense.

You might not have heard, it was sold. You might also not have heard that Cindy is prepping for a run against Pelosi. You obviously haven't heard that the republi-cons don't want your presence any longer -just your money. People like you ruined the party.

Posted by phidipides at August 21, 2007 10:08 AM

Oh Phid, more NSDAP junk. Will you ever learn?

I'm smiling NOW just like the Iraqi's, Seven.

Rep. Pelosi's 80% in the last election seems to say she's safe. Would Cindy win, she would be at the bottom of the pecking order. CA would lose all that influence. And Steny would take over, that's something to look forward to. Taking the princess out would also would seem to mean the majority is going away. I'd welcome that. Would also seem to mean that our war effort's a success. I remember Speaker Foley's leaving in 1994.

Go Cindy Go! Where can I send a donation?

Posted by peter at August 21, 2007 10:22 AM

Will you ever learn?

I've learned that you don't have original thoughts. That's what makes you such a good brownshirt. Buschland Uber Alles!

Posted by phidipides at August 21, 2007 11:12 AM

I keep telling you brownshirts were killed off or purged with Ernst Rohm in 1934. Blackshirts of the SS and Waffen were the ones to be feared. I've never met one of those, only seen in books pictures and movies.

Must be an Oklahoma thing. I miss the Keatings, they are great people.

Posted by peter at August 21, 2007 11:46 AM

No one eats frozen eggrolls.

Here I am, now living 40 miles away in the middle of NOWHERE with no eggrolls. No tasty, yummy eggrolls worth mentioning for 40 freaking miles.

Of all the things I thought I'd miss from my former city, it wasn't the eggrolls.

There's a few Chinese places in a town nearby, but for some reason, all of these family restaurants are incapable of making one decent fricking egg roll.

Posted by idiosynchronic at August 21, 2007 12:20 PM

idio - make your own, they're not hard. You should be able to get the wraps at the grocery store, and they freeze well.

Mmm - shrimp egg roll.

Just a word of caution for the wise about Jeff Masters' Blog: It is a hive of right wing global heating denialists who will tolerate lots of ugliness from their own denialists but cut off comments from realists about global warming at the drop of a hat. Having said that, if you want to wade through the ocean of sometimes ridiculous comments you can find lots of pretty pictures of hurricanes.

Posted by pogeo at August 21, 2007 01:05 PM

...books pictures and movies.

There are Brownshirts in My Pet Goat? Sure you're a Brownshirt. You just haven't had your moment with the night of the long knives.

I miss the Keatings, they are great people.

Why am I not surprised? You guys and your closeted gays are really something. Don't let Busch know your true feelings. You'll remember he dumped Keating like a good sick crack whore.

pants-pissing peter is a good little troll, hope you get paid by the word

now be sure mommy buys you extra Cheetoes
