next stop Iran
we have become despicable
Posted by Gay Veteran at August 21, 2007 09:27 AMWhat the return of electricity looks like in Iraq today.
Posted by Seven of Six at August 21, 2007 09:58 AMI'm sure none of this has anything to do with Levin's largest campaign contributor being Guardsmark, a company employing more ex-FBI agents than any other company anywhere.
Posted by phidipides at August 21, 2007 09:59 AMThis is an outrage. Dems can't even unify behind the idea that this occupation is a complete and bloody disaster? And so what if they agree al-Maliki is ineffective? What would they propose we do? Wait another 6 months or so for the Iraqis to choose another leader? There is no one short of a dictator who is gonna be able to unite these different factions together, especially under the thumb of a foreign occupier.
It's unbelievable that Democrats cannot agree that the least plausible answer is a military one. Now many of them are against setting withdrawl deadlines. Can't we at least go back to where we were pre-surge? This horrible situation cries out for leadership, and we don't even have an opposition party anymore. This is truly depressing. We're gonna be stuck in this hellhole for at least 10 years and talk of reinstituting the draft, which already is being whispered, will soon become a valid debate.
We need some strong words coming out of our candidates for president and we need them now.
Posted by Jeff Dinelli at August 21, 2007 11:44 AMUh.. isn't the job of House and Senate whips to enforce some kind of party discipline?
I never thought I would say this but dems need a Tom Delay.

Hardball legislation takes a 60 count supermajority, and the Democrats don’t have it yet. This stubborn and dangerously wrong president makes it clear that we need more Democrats. While we have to wait and count the troop deaths, bush sets up a fabrication. We were promised a report from someone we were told we could trust, General Petraeus; now bush weasels on that. Sorry, but I don’t believe bush. A report from him is worthless.
Every political benchmark has failed. The surge is “whack-a-mole” with the trouble just moving around. The one positive outcome of the surge is that as we pulled out of Anbar, the resident Sunnis went after the foreign element, cleaning out Al-Queda, as I’ve predicted for years. Iraqis fighting us in Iraq are not terrorists. They aren’t going to follow us here. The killing going on now will intensify, into a 4way civil war, the end being a Shiite Iran-friendly semi-theocracy. Hopefully, oil revenue sharing will bring nationalism, pacify the Sunni, and the Kurds won’t be whacked too hard, by everybody, before settling down. There is very little we can do to alter this, and our troops are dying for that. Now, tomorrow, until we leave.
Posted by Richard W. Crews at August 21, 2007 11:48 AMThe Dems are acting like:
a) their own jobs matter more than the lives and security of millions.
b) there might be oil in Iraq.
c) they've been chewing toys from China.
d) they think the Netroots has no choice but to vote for them.
Levin didn't go far enough. Things will only get better when their prime minister, their Parliament, our president, our president's sockpuppet, Bush, and our Congress - every last member - is replaced.
I'm just that disgusted. I won't vote for any incumbent unless they've signed on with Kucinich's impeachment resolution. No more half measures, period.
Posted by Kevin Hayden at August 21, 2007 12:04 PMSteve, you and anyone who supports these cowardly dems are fools. Steve NOW EVEN YOUR HILLARY IS SUPPORTING THE SURGE! The two parties have betrayed this country. How many times must you all be fooled?
Posted by jj at August 21, 2007 12:17 PMAs I said a few months ago (and Levin's warriors sprang to his defense), Sen. Carl Levin is a DINO Dem in the Feinstein tradition.
VOTE. THEM. ALL. OUT. OF. OFFICE.
Posted by Christopher at August 21, 2007 01:05 PMNOW EVEN YOUR HILLARY IS SUPPORTING THE SURGE!
No, no, no, Hillary didn't mean what she said when she said the surge is working. She was engaging in nuance. LMAO!
No wonder more voters detest her than like her.
Posted by Christopher at August 21, 2007 01:09 PMWhat I am thoroughly SICK of is the so-called "Democrat" leadership once again enabling the same dishonest spin of the corporate media, the lib'rul press and Karl Rove! The Surge is NOT WORKING Whack-a-mole is an excellent description of what's happening with "The General's" fabulous plan. After all, you know, he wrote the book on counter-intelligence or was that counter-insurgency? I find it so difficult to keep up.
Why the Hell can't any Democratic MORONS keep themselves from helping the enemy of all we hold dear? It's NOT a God damned WAR! It's occupation! We DON"T need a War on Terror, we need to round up the terrorists who actually exist and put them in jail. The LAST thing America needs in its global climate, economic and spiritual crisis is to EXPAND the Fucking Army by 65,000 troops. If that's Barrack's "New strategy" he can stick it deep up where the sun don't shine and ram it in with a pineapple!
Is everybody inside the Beltway simply STUPID???? Or are they just greedy fucks who don't give a rat's ass that the world's greatest experiment in democracy is being flushed down the ceramic whirlpool? Please pardon my - Freedom. I'm just about at the limits of my patience.
And this means YOU Go Fuck Yourself Pat Leahy! DO SOMETHING don't threaten to write another letter, or pass a non-binding resolution. DAMN your blind eyes!
Posted by DeminNewJ at August 21, 2007 02:24 PMLe Hill is triangulating.
She was against the surge before she was for it and her position arrived in a box labeled "Nuance."
It's enough to make the DLC (and the RNC) dance with glee.
Posted by Christopher at August 21, 2007 03:17 PM"I'm just that disgusted. I won't vote for any incumbent unless they've signed on with Kucinich's impeachment resolution. No more half measures, period." Kevin
What a laugher this one is. This president will be leaving office and Kevin will not vote for any incumbents. One less Democratic vote for you. One less egg to fry...
DeminNewJ, you get what you vote for. Democrats are always "duping" the electorate and they are easily duped. They just go marching in.
Posted by peter at August 21, 2007 07:59 PMIn 2008, we own the War.
Posted by Judith at August 22, 2007 12:16 AMTotally agree with DeminNewJ, we don't need a bigger army, we need to totally get the fu*k out of Iraq.
ah yes, General Petraeus, the guy who lost track of nearly 200,000 weapons in Iraq
pant-pissing peter needs to wipe the neo-con kool ade off his chn
